Who the HELL watches that SYFY crap?

One of us! One of us! Gobble, gobble!

Every time you think you have seen the worst movie in history, they come up with a worse one, or better, it depends on how you look at it.
Did you ever notice that in every one of these " movies", there is, at least, one person who tries to actually act, don’t they know what kind of movie they are in ?

The expanse has caused me to forgive all their transgressions. Even Sharknado.

Vos absolvo Syfy.

Because they never had any freakin’ science fiction on their channel. Too busy with ghosts and goblins, vampires and witches, dungeons and dragons, swords and sorcery, and neal fucking gaiman to show actual science fiction, you know, what sci-fi is supposed to mean.

“A dolphin!? Hollywood is too mammal-centric, it needs to be more biologically correct!”

I don’t get this SyFy channel of which you all speak. But I’ve seen some of ‘Sharknado’ and, as fan of The Guyver and Trancers movies, I’m pleased the franchise exists even if I have no intention of sitting through the rest of its offerings.

But ‘Dune’ and ‘Children of Dune’ were wonderful and weird and sublime.

It’s easier if you just think of these movies as “Do-It-Yourself MST3K/Rifftrax” movies, they supply the cinematic drek, you supply the running commentary

I’m watching “Ice Sharks” and they have surpassed them selves on bad movies. This one is the worst one ( so far).
There has to be someone, somewhere who hears this story line and says," That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard, lets make a movie about it."
I wonder how much was spent to make this piece of crap.

I think the answer is kind of obvious: These drek-fests are primarily geared towards kids. I remember growing up in the 70s and even though I knew they were stupid and had cheesy effects I never missed a Japanese Kiaju movie on TV*!* Even Gamera, which even I thought was almost too childish & stupid.

Plus they’re economically viable. They’re not as cheap as reality shows, but since they’re not a multiple-episode series they get a bigger share per showing. They hire D-list nobody actors, union crew, and pay a room full of geeks to whip up some crappy CGI with After Effects. At this point they have also past the tipping point where they’re meta, they know they’re horribly bad and they play to that. Not exactly sure when this happened, I think maybe it was Sharknado that was the perfect storm.

Note however, that their fifteen minutes of fame is almost up…

So, who watched (or will admit it) the much anticipated #4?

I really do love those cheesy movies–especially anything sharky. But The Fella and I will MST3K them and laugh.

The one thing I feel bad about mocking them, is that for some people–this is their first job. Including actors, but all the behind the scenes people.

I want to add that I can’t write even a cheesy screenplay that could get produced.

When it comes to SYFY network I just tune in twice a year. New Years Eve & the 4th of July when they run the Twilight Zone marathons. For the other 363 days of the year, I can do without it.

The other night I chanced upon a SyFy alligator-themed flick. It was mildly amusing until a couple of horribly-animated CGI gators got into a fight. I gave up after that.

Exactly! I caught a little bit of Sharktopus vs Pteracuda over the weekend while kid-sitting my 8 y.o. granddaughter, and I got to thinking that these are just a modern version of the Japanese monster movies I grew up on, with CGI instead of cardboard sets and toy tanks.

I watched it. It was OK, but not up to the quality of the previous 3. They’ve definitely run out of ideas. Gary Busey as Tara Reid’s insane scientist father was great though.

I watched about half of #4.
After a whole week of this " stuff", I was crapped out. The first one was different crap and okay for a laugh.
I can’t believe that anybody looks forward to these “movies”, they are not funny or exciting, they are just stupid and a waste of time.
I like “bad” movies that are worth watching, but they are not even trying anymore.

I like a so-bad-it’s-good campy shark movie now and then. If I’ve had a bad day, they are good excuse to let off tension by railing on at the tv or just laughing at the silliness.

Someone I know posted this sign on the FB page:

Next time you’re afraid to share your ideas, remember that someone once said in a meeting “Let’s make a film with a tornado full of sharks.”

SyFy already had a history of ridiculous movies so this was more ramping it up than a total departure of sanity.

I remember back in the 90’s up late watching USA up all night. Seeing movies like Biker Chicks in Zombie Town. Great times.
I liked Syfy, I used to watch stuff like Mansquito…etc but haven’t cared much to watch any TV in years. These days, I can sit through a 30 minute sitcom or short documentary but that’s it. I have to be physically doing or interacting with something.
