Who wants to be a superhero? 8/10

Ty’veculus was acting in character. His powers, bolding mine:

So, he detected all the BS going on in the room, but he couldn’t BS on his own, else he become powerless. Plus, Lemuria is a beauty - she probably had him wrapped around her little finger (on her left hand, as I’m already wrapped around the one on the right).

I wish they’d get it straight whether she’s supposed to be Lemuria or Lumeria.

Yet he lied about liking his makeover last week. It would be interesting if he’d actually thought that after he was called out for fibbing about liking his new costume he chose deliberately to drop the BS only to have that decision get him turfed.

But since on his way out he was talking about how stupid he was not to have picked up on the self-sacrifice meme, my feeling is that he wasn’t acting in character and if he’d noticed he’d have gone along with the grenade-falling-upon.

Creature obviously twigged to the challenge right away…so I wonder why she didn’t keep quiet until a few more heroes had incriminated themselves! Le/umu/eria especially would have failed this one without Creature’s example. Feedback and Major Victory are in character enough to have plausibly passed, but Le/umu/eria isn’t on the same level.

Also, Ty didn’t need to lie or make up some story like Creature did. All he had to do was say something like, “Stan, I have to stand by my team-mates, all of them. If you have to pick someone to eliminate, pick me.” And look all stoic.

I’m also kind of annoyed at how they used Dark Enforcer. He didn’t do anything except read lines…and HELP them with the balance beam challenge. They should have come up with a better way for him to oppose the team.

Yeah, I knew how to beat that challenge the minute I heard it, and I sat hoping that, unlike the last few times, the contestants would be able to catch on this time. Fortunately, Creature did, and everyone saw it.
Explaining the show to my roommate, I told her:
It’s not trying to play the show or any of the other heros, all they have to do is think and figure out how to play Stan Lee. That’s how they win, even if they don’t really think that, just see how he thinks.

I think its pretty scripted, but not as much as others seem to think. Meh.

PS: I’d do Major Victory

I thought the same thing at first, that Creature would have been smarter to let some others go first and do the wrong thing. But then I thought some more: Sure, by going first she risked clueing in some of the others that might otherwise have done a Tyveculus. But by waiting, she would risk letting someone else be the first to do the grenade fall, and then Creature would look like just a follower. By going first, she guaranteed that Stan would see that she got it right all by herself; no one that followed could say with certainty that they thought of self-sacrifice on their own. I think it was the right move.

I think he did, though. I understand why he narrowed the choices down to Ty’V and FM; however, I think that the points raised by Ty’V sounded plausible, whereas the supposedly “compassionate” objection raised by FM was just plain bogus.

Narrowing the choices down to Ty’V and FM? Makes sense to me.

Giving Ty’V the boot instead of FM? Doesn’t make sense.

All this fawning over Major Victory (who’s undeniably pretty, if dumber than a box of rocks). Doesn’t anyone like Feedback? I think he’s a hottie, and the fact that he’s a martial artist gives him the edge; few things are sexier to me.

Major Victory plus Feedback? I for one would definitely volunteer to be in a hero sandwich.

Levity was also pretty cute despite our not getting to know him (curse you, Rotiart!).

Could someone spoil for me (and others interested but without the opportunity to watch) how the challanges were presented? Was the balance-beam thing they showed in the previews the self-sacrifice test?

I knew Monkey Woman wouldn’t win, but I figured she’d last longer than this. Her problem is that she has too much backstory: Stan’s not going to want to just re-hash the story she’s already created, he’s going to want to create his own. Like, the winner’s (whomever that is) arch-nemesis is Enforcer, but Monkey Woman’s arch-nemesis is the Zookeeper.

Victory has a similar problem, in that he fits just a bit too neatly into the traditional superhero mold. Again, Stan isn’t going to want to write a Major Victory story, because it’s been done to death. But I’m guessing he’ll be the penultimate one left.

And I also saw Tyveculus’ elimination coming. Lying about his costume was not just out of the superhero character in general; it was very much out of his specific character. That hurt him considerably, in Stan’s eyes, I think. It’s also interesting that he would have missed a self-sacrifice challange, after volunteering to go first with the dogs.

Wikipedia article, including summary.

The beam challenge was a test of courage. The heroes were presented with a screaming damsel on an opposite roof. They were blindfolded and had to traverse a beam set between the two roofs with just a guide rope. The beam was actually flat on their own roof so they were never in any actual danger.

The self-sacrifice challenge was after everyone passed the courage test. Stan asked the heroes to choose which of them should be sent home, supposedly so they can tell how hard his job is. [del]Cretin[/del] Creature jumped up and volunteered to be cut. The other heroes followed suit except for Ty’V and FM.
