Wonderful!
I spoke with her briefly on the phone last night, and she says she’s finally catching on to the treatment work. Her attitude seems better, more mature than I’ve ever seen before. I’m optimistic.

How much longer will your daughter be there Norine? I was thinking of sending another card (I hope she got the first one), but it may not get there from Australia in time.
She did in fact get the first one, and was excited to have a card all the way from Australia! She will be in at least until February 28th, possibly a couple of days longer. She’s been having trouble completing recovery work on time, and she has something due on her counselor’s desk Monday morning. For every day after Monday it’s not there, the counselor is adding a day to her stay!
I got her a card…now if I can just find it again! February 28th, you say?
Email sent. That’ll teach me to read MPSIMS more often!
E.
Norine, any idea if she got my card? Just checking…
Yes, as a matter of fact she did. Thanks.
Elza B., email answered!
DungBeetle, that sounds exactly like something I would do.

I emailed you. Glad to send a card, as soon as I manage to get home to my dorm room and find me stationary.
Hi Norine, I’ve been busy and haven’t had a chanceto ask if L. got my little book of pictures? Would she like more pictures?
It sounds like she’s making some progress.
How are you doing?
M.
She got it, and I’ll ask her when I talk to her tonight if she’d like some more.
I’m doing pretty well. It’s actually peaceful not having her around and not having to deal with her constant drama. But what I’m especially glad about is that the treatment seems to be taking. For the past three years, everyone has been bending over backwards trying to help her, but this is the first time she seems really willing to help herself!
Oh, I’m dropping you an email.
Hi norinew, how are things going? I missed some of this, and was wondering if there are any updates.
What’s a mandala?
That explains that!

BlueKangaroo, we saw her Sunday, and she was telling us about some of the stuff she did while she was using. Scary stuff! I’m so glad she’s serious about getting clean. I think her current boyfriend had a lot to do with her decision to enter rehab. He’s by far the highest-quality guy she’s ever been involved with. He still drops by every few days to see how we’re doing, sends her letters and poems, he even came by Sunday morning, after the snow, to shovel our sidewalk!
It really seems like some of the lessons they’re trying to teach her are sinking in!
picunurse, she said she would like some more pictures, if you want to send some, and she finds it hilarious that your cat has a step-father.
 (I’m not really mad; this is the smiley my little girl wanted me to add to this post).
:o (she wanted these, too; in fact, she’s asking for more, but I told her that’s enough smilies for one post!
I’m in (second wave)
Have you ever seen images of buddhist monks meditating by pouring colored sand in intricate patterns? Those patterns are mandalas.
A quick google will give you a number of sites where you can download them to print out and color (although, to stick with the buddhist tradition, you should probably burn them as soon as your done with them)
Email received and answered!

I did finally get mine sent on Saturday.
Hey, doesn’t Amanda get out today? What’s happening?
and did my card get there in time?
She did get your card, and sends her thanks. But it’s a 60-day treatment program, so she’s got another month to go. She seems to be doing well; I talked to her counselor today about some things we can do once she gets home to reinforce what she’s learning in rehab.
Thank you for the updates. I’ve been curious.
Should those of us in the first wave send more? I thought I might bore her with my letters (I’m a boring person), so I let her know she could write back if interested. I wasn’t planning on writing again if she didn’t write back, because I’m boring and I wouldn’t want to bore her.
Wow. I think this might be a most boring post.
