Who was this Standup-Comedian?

Dear Friends…
I need some help trying to remember the name of a stand-up comedian who was around during the 90’s. I saw him a few times on “Evening at the Improv”, and was lucky enough to see him in person. His personna was that of a wise-cracking
1940’s gumshoe. I think his name was…“Tommy”…Something… Help!!!

I know exactly who you’re talking about but I can’t recall the name. One of the routines I remember involved lots of puns about vegetables.

I googled…“Tommy Steele” (cause that’s what name is still working in my head)
but all I cam up with was a 1960’2 Brittish singer…(OH MY)

Tommy Sledge may be the man you’re thinking of.

Is this possibly the same guy who voices a puppet with the same persona on “Crank Yankers”? (I wouldn’t know his name; I’ve only seen the ads.)

Snoopy wins the prize…thanks

How did you know that?
(Dr. Memory is in awe)…

I found it through dogged determination!

First, I tried Googling “Tommy improv comic gumshoe,” but that didn’t work. So I tried a couple of other combinations before “Tommy improv comic detective” struck gold.

I Googles the exact same search terms and came up empty. Damn you to hell Snoooooooooopy!

Wish I’d have seen this earlier. I knew the guy’s name - Tommy Sledge - right off the top of my head. He has one of my all-time favorite “improv” lines:

While walking through the audience, he’d stop at a person, and identify them as a criminal mastermind. He’d then ask what their next crime was going to be. Typical answers would be “rob a bank,” etc. And he’d come back with “That’s why [audience member’s name] wasn’t a good criminal…he kept announcing his crimes ahead of time.”

Kip Addotta did it first.

There’s a brief streaming video clip of him here.

Funny stuff.

Didn’t he also have a ‘Comedy-jock’ job on the Comedy Channel’s (not comedy Central yet) first lamentable year. (Where they forced otherwise semi-talented comedians to stretch their material so thin over the course of a year).

As I recall, he had to show the old Batman serial (the movie serial, not the old TV show) among other things CC foisted on folks as ironicly funny.
