IF one presumes that the GOP convention will otherwise be a positive bump (as conventions usually are) it also avoids having the VP announcement displace any other positive hoohaw. (Of course if the GOP convention is a disaster then a distraction would be a good thing.)
In addition to DSeid’s good reasons posted above, Pence has a noon Friday deadline. Indiana law does not allow him to run for two offices on the same ballot.
I suppose he could be on 50 other ballots and have a placeholder on Indiana’s, but that would display a level of disorganization and thoughtlessness that even I wouldn’t . expect … from … Trump’s
I keep thinking it will be Christie. But, on the other hand, he has more definitive TV moments recorded where he flat out says Trump will ruin the country if elected. I don’t see how he can walk those back.
Granted, he could cancel it should he get tapped by Don. But he’s obviously not been asked anything official yet, now less than 24 hours out from the announcement.
