Who will beat The Tide this year? SI says Stanford

Stanford?

I can actually see the case for Texas A&M, if their offense can jump past Bama’s Big-D, but seriously? Stanford?

Was a fun read, at least.

Personally, I think Ohio State has a better chance. Even at that, it looks to me like a wide open field of contenders. and who says Bammy will be back in the Title game anyways?

Texas A&M will be lucky to make a bowl game if “Johnny Football” is ineligible. The rest of it is wishful thinking. The SEC champion will win the BCS for the 8th consecutive year, and Bama is a clear favorite to win the SEC again. Ohio State, Stanford, whoever the sacrificial lamb offered up on the BCS altar may be, the result is certain.

ROLL TIDE!

No one else gonna bite?

My Nebraska Cornhuskers. Here’s how:

Nebraska merely has to score more points then the opposition in each game. That done, they should get selected for the BCS title game. The BCS is a mite twitchy if you’re not an SEC team, so no guarantees.

Then use the same cunning strategy to beat Alabama.

I think the Gamecocks have a shot. This could be Spurrier’s best team at SC. If they can beat Georgia they have a good shot to make the SEC championship game.

Just note that last year, SI had preseason rankings of:

  1. Alabama
  2. USC (the Southern Cal version, not South Carolina)
  3. LSU
  4. Oregon

Yeah, it was an odd one loss year for a lot of programs.

I’ve been told to call South Carolina “Scar” by my SEC friends to avoid confusion.

Ohio St. is rolling in with a mystique about them that makes them a very interesting pick. I don’t think South Carolina has much of a chance even with Clowney being the most highly rated defensive player of the past… 10 or so years.

They will likely have a team in the title game again, if only because they have the pollsters in their back pocket. The Tide will feast on cupcakes much of the year, last years 4-8 Colorado State team as well as powerhouses Georgia State and Chattanooga.
