I’m not very good at this game, but I did finally get a picture where I actually knew where it was - Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park. 986 points! 
(I managed to be off by 0.1km.) I got 2,262 for that round, which is my highest so far.
…actually, no. I just tried again, and 3 of my 5 pictures were from that car show in Paris. 2,739!
I hit thre pictures of the Paris auto show. Whee. Still, it feels good to get really close on gut.

I got one that was a closeup of a baby in a crib or something. I guessed someplace in Europe, but the answer was in the middle of the Atlantic. No land for hundreds of miles. Unless they were on a cruise, I’m thinking there is some fudging involved in the location.

Wonder if it’s a function of Google’s Safe Search being ON or OFF? I also got a very NSFW picture, but at least I got 466 points on it. I was a few hundred kilometers away from the pic of the lady masturbating on the floor, somewhere between Metz and Nancy, France.
When in doubt, guess somewhere in Europe. Over 75% of mine were there.

I was only off by ~10,200 km.
Kind of fun, in a tilting at windmills kind of way. Plus, the occasional naughty photo makes it seem more dangerous.
I had the same experience - only ~10% were not in Europe (and one was in the Azores, so not terribly far off). I got bored just clicking vaguely somewhere in Europe every time. Another one clearly had an American flag in the picture, but I figured they were trying to trick me.
Funny thing, I got this one and it was my highest scoring picture. (my highest score was 1945)

A really high percentage of the pictures seem to come from the Alps, at least in my experience. I can routinely get over 1500 points just by clicking on that area, no matter the picture.
There’s your problem. The vast majority of the pictures I got were central European so you have to randomly click there to get points.
Seriously in six rounds I got two that were in the US, two in Brazil, two in Scandinavia, one in the Middle East, one in Spain, and the rest in in a few hundred mile radius of Berlin.
I have found the same thing. When in doubt, click somewhere in Germany, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, etc.
Ditto; although about 50% of mine seem to be from Austria. Had one of two shadows on a concrete floor!
No NSFW stuff yet though…
Ok, in the same round I first got a picture of the welcome to Las Vegas sign that is very clearly on Las Vegas Blvd. right outside the Mandalay Bay hotel. I zoomed way in to try and nail it exactly… and it told me I was off by 9 kilometers. No way. I’ve been there a dozen times, and I know I had it to within a few feet.
So I’m stewing about that one, and two pictures later I get a close up of the Eiffel Tower. Zoom in to Paris, get right to the spot (I’ve been there too)… and it tells me I’m off by 340 kilometers, cause the picture was taken in the middle of the English Channel, just south of the isle of Jersey.
Grr.
