Whoa! Very cool new Google game

Interestingly, there is apparently a very lovely Gothic cathedral approximately 800 km west of the Canary Islands.

The architecture of Atlantis is often overlooked - I’m glad to see it getting some play!

OK, that was freaky. I have a friend that lives in the apartment building of the Russian Hill picture. If the next one is of me at my desk I’m going out the window.

Actually, it’s funny you would mention that, cause it’s the only picture I’ve seen so far that was shown sideways. Darn mid-Atlantic continent-sinking earthquakes!

I just tried again. The very first picture I got was some taken above a shed, near some fir trees, with a city nestled in a nearby valley, with some nice mountains in the background. So I figure somewhere in Germany or Czech Republic or Austria (I’ve been in this area).

Google has it in Kansas, between Topeka and Kansas City. I’ve been to Kansas City, but never to Topeka. Is there a nice forest with mountains between KC and Topeka, or are they folks just screwing with it now?

Arright…non-descript scenery and random indoor locations are one thing, but this one was just ridiculous.

Well, obviously the short tie is a dead giveaway.

I got a picture of a cute toy on a table. I clicked on Japan and got 500 points. Score!

I’m playing it again and I just got a picture of a dude sitting on his couch with a tall hat with the Union Jack on it.

I thought, “easy one, it’s gotta be great britain”. Of course it was New Zealand and I was 18602.3km away.

Anybody ever been further away than that?

I got a guy in a diaper!

My best score after twelve rounds was 1487. If I couldn’t really tell where it was I just clicked in the middle of America. Some photos were signed “user@whatever.com - Australia” so i knew where to put those. All the Asian looking ones were from Taiwan or east China. The only ones in the Eastern hemisphere other than Taiwan, China, and Australia were always Spain or England. Anything vaguely hispanic was in mid South America. Northern Hemisphere was usually NY, California, or Oregon, although there were a few others.

Maybe I’m missing something obvious where you can leave at the end of a round or something, but first I thought it was one round, then five, then ten, twenty…

At about thirty-three, I decided I really should get back to work.
It wasn’t very good, but could be much better. We need a Doper-made version.

Perhaps it needs negative points, so that you can take a long shot (like the example with the guy in the Union flag hat being in New Zealand) and have it be worth it if you win.

Lame. Kept getting things that could be anywhere like a rose or a generic picture of a kid.

~80% turned out to be in France or Germany.

I got a picture of a little Asian girl with no other clues, so I guessed Japan. Nope. New York. If put together right, this thing could be kind of cool, but as it is, it’s just random and stupid.

Does this game ever end? I don’t think I like it very much…too many blurry, non-descript photos of nothing.

Out of curiousity, do leaves change colors in Europe etc? I clicked on the upper US and Canada for every picture that had fall leaves in the background, and got within 1200k of the real location every time - and that’s the farthest distance, I came within 90k a couple of times.
