Who's away from home and reading the Dope?

I’m currently on business in Bangalore India. Who else is on the road and checking in?

This guy, in Denver at the DJI Airworks conference.

You should have asked this a couple of days ago. I was sitting in a gazebo on the beach, reading the Dope on a cell phone and thinking about starting a thread about how pathetic that is. (A photo, you can get the full effect by using this applet.)

What’s Bangalore like? I’ve never been there.

A few days ago, I was away in San Francisco. While I was there, I went on the SDMB a couple of times. (It was a nice break from helping my sister with her new baby.) Now I’m back home on the opposite coast.

I am gone in different ways. And I am always looking at the ‘dope’, because apparently I haven’t a real life. It all just virtual at this point!

Noisy, busy, dusty, vibrant; it’s a fun place to visit for my week long annual trip. There’s really not much for a tourist to see, but i enjoy wandering around taking photos and eating wonderful food.

I’ve been lucky and never gotten sick. Some western co-workers try to only eat bland packaged food and have often gotten sick. Knock on wood, I’m still standing.

I’m home now, but many’s the day I’m checking or posting the Dope from a hotel someplace. Even occasionally from an airport while killing excess downtime between legs.

I am at home now (in Philadelphia). I will be back in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

I’m 13 miles from home, in my office - does that count?

There are drugs for that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you ever feel short-sighted about your username?

Heh, I’m in my open-ended disaser-driven displacement. May be so for at least a year.

I’ll be checking in from Hong Kong, then Singapore, then Ho Chi Minh City, in the next ten days.

Thought I’d get out of here before snow fell, but missed by >< that much! 5cm on the ground this morning. I was NOT happy to see it.

But never mind, soon gone!

I made a few posts from New Zealand 4 years ago.

I’m in CT at the moment. Two weeks ago, reading / posting was limited to the hotel in WV (stoopit roaming). Next week, I’ll probably post from NY & then in December & January I’m going…nowhere, thankfully.

Just arrived in Singapore. Did check in from HK, but just reading, no posting! Came through the newest terminal at Changi, very nice indeed.

(Interesting flight path out of Toronto. One I’ve never seen or taken before. We headed due north to James Bay, across Hudson Bay out over arctic waters, then northern Greenland, heading south again over a bit of Russia, directly over Mongolia then China and into Hong Kong. It was kinda very cool! Cloud obscured most of Hudson Bay, but after that it was pretty clear. Awesome views of isolated and deep snow ridges, even fjords!)

The eating begins at dawn! (Metaphorically, we’re sleeping off 21hrs of airtime!)

I’m sitting at Gate 33B on a layover at LAX. I may be in Amarillo by the end of the week.

If you’re the guy sitting next to me, I can only offer this advice: dude, lay off the garlic. Your farts are neither silent, nor pleasant.

Tripler
Seriously, bub, I hope you aren’t on my flight.

Whenever Im away from home, I suspend my forum activities until I get back.

And now Ho Chi Minh City. We arrived in the pouring rain, are staying in the seventh district, where little or no English is spoken. Should be interesting! Time for a good nights sleep listening to the rain fall!

We arrived in HCMC just after midnight (local time) this morning and despite the rain it’s been a rather full-on day (full of ca phe, pho, ricepaper rolls, markets, local beer)…until around 3pm when we dragged ourselves back to our hotel looking like half-drowned rats. Hoping the tropical low moves its sorry arse away from here sooner rather than later, but the forecasts aren’t looking too hopeful.

Where you at now Kambuckta?

After several rain filled and chill days seeing the sights in Hue, we were headed to Tam Ty on a train. We had rooms on Tam Hai, an island off the coast. Everything we owned was wet, with no hope of drying! I had to buy a jacket I was so chill!

After checking the weather forecast, (100% possibility of rain, 98% humidity, 63 degree temps, for days and days!), we just up and u-turned! Jumped off the train at Da Nang (abandoning rooms we’d paid for further north!), caught a flight into Saigon, then another to Phu Quoc. We’re in a lovely bungalow just back from the fancy resorts, 200m walk from Long beach. The sun is shining, it’s baking hot outside and all our soggy gear is now at the laundry. Suddenly we’re having a tropical holiday again! Yay!

Hoping wherever you are you’ve made your way out of the rain, damp and chill! We did see some awesome sights and ate fabulous food, but after several days we were just worn down by it! Hope you’re fairing better than we did!
