I’m well aware of the narrative that the same man who ran rings around Congressional Republicans was somehow a doddering senile fool and yet managed to negotiate a complex multi-national prisoner exchange at the same time. Many people find such narratives comforting.
We traveled extensively in the US this year and the one thing we could count on in every place we visited was that there would be at least one T-shirt store selling “Let’s Go Brandon” shirts for a dollar or two to try to get rid of them. There was also a desperate attempt to pivot to “Let’s Go Brenda” which fared just as well. It’s hard to feel sorry for people who attempt to profit from ignorance and hatred, and I didn’t even try.
There’s a person in my general vicinity who lives in a single-wide trailer, right on a busy road, directly across the street from a gas station. They have huge Trump banners (4 or 5) at the entrance to their driveway. These definitely cost money.
Does your statement “the same man who ran rings around Congressional Republicans” refer to Congressmen/Congresswomen/Congresspersons (Is there a Congressthem yet?) as the title of address for members of the House of Representatives, or does it refer to both the House and the Senate? If it includes the Senate, then I hope you recall that what’s being hyped as Biden’s signature legislative accomplishment, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 was a compromise born from a defeat of the Build Back Better Act. Of course, the main senator acting against Biden’s desired bill was a Democrat, Joe Manchin, but I don’t think his opposition works towards the idea of Biden being a ringmaster.
I can only speculate about the person flying the “Let’s Go, Brandon” flag. I doubt that person was focusing on Biden’s legislative record, bur probably more on his overall mediocrity and the many examples of Biden’s mental stumbling. Also, as somewhat stated earlier, “Let’s Go, Brandon” is funny.
I mean the guy who got Congressional Republicans at two separate State of the Union addresses to publicly commit to his positions.
By “overall mediocrity” do you mean the way Biden brought down the post-pandemic inflationary surge faster and with greater economic growth than the rest of the Western world? The guy who gave us the infrastructure bill you’re busily trying to deny him credit for, the bill so popular that many of the Republicans who opposed it ended up taking credit for it anyway? The guy who restrengthened NATO after Trump spent four years undermining it, and led the support for Ukraine against the Russian invasion?
If that’s what you think “overall mediocrity” looks like, I’m curious as to your basis for comparison.
It is. Joe Biden even thought it was funny, which is why he riffed on it on several occasions.
But if you prefer to pretend that he didn’t know what it meant, that’s your prerogative.
Yeah. Biden, the guy who was hugely influenced by the idea of the Green New Deal and put large amounts of it into his election platform. Then cut back on it to submit the Build Back Better Act. Which didn’t pass and ended up being the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. Which as a bipartisan bill seems like it will end up being good legislation. You should thank Joe Manchin for the end result.
Biden also “achieved” post-Covid economic growth because 1) it was post-Covid and 2) even if he wasn’t able to borrow as much money from the future as he wanted, the “Inflation Reduction Act of 2022” did provide economic stimulus.
I’m unaware of Biden making any further comments on “Let’s Go, Brandon” after the December 2021 debacle. Could you provide examples beyond the Christmas Eve 2021 gaffe?
So glad you recognize this, finally! That’s why Biden laughed. Because it’s funny and he has a sense of humor. And unlike Trump, he doesn’t mind laughing at himself.
Would you care to elaborate on which post you’re replying to? Also, why I have confidence you’re reply is topical to the subject of the thread, could you please associate it a bit more with the subject so I can decide to respond positively, negatively, or neutrally?
Again, nice try. My belief is that if you heard a giggle, you have selective hearing. Even if you did, it certainly wasn’t an indication of a continuation of a joke.
The Christmas Eve “Let’s Go Brandon” Biden gaffe was just a typical Biden gaffe. Unfortunately, he had a lot of gaffes during his presidency and more towards the end. A celebration of the end of that presidency by a non-Biden fab isn’t particularly surprising.
I’ll bow to your mind-reading powers. Your certainty is proof alone that you are sure, so we can leave it at that. After all, if someone’s sure what a stranger is thinking, that should be good enough for anyone!
Nice spin. Again, this is a bill that Biden championed and which was heavily opposed by Republicans, yet turned out to be so good for the country that the same Republicans who campaigned against it took credit for it. I understand that giving Biden credit for what he did goes against your preferred narrative but nonetheless he was a surprisingly effective president and you remain unable to make a case for Biden’s “overall mediocrity”.
That both makes no sense at all and goes against all the economic data. I note how you’ve somehow ignored that Biden’s post-COVID economic recovery policies resulted in a dramatically better outcome than those of our peer nations.
Oh wait - you can’t acknowledge that. Because it goes against your preferred narrative.
Except that it wasn’t remotely a gaffe, and constantly repeating your preferred narrative that it was will not make it so. Biden simply refused to be drawn by a cheap job, something which strongly distinguishes him from his predecessor.
My belief is that if you still consider it a gaffe, you have selective thinking.
However, that article had no indication that Joe Biden was aware that he was being mocked during the Christmas Eve interview. Or any furtherance of the supposed humour he displayed by repeating the “Let’s Go Brandon” comment. It basically looked like a lame recovery attempt to recuperate bad news, which probably should have been left alone.
So staying with my guess towards the intention of the “Let’s Go Brandon” flag flyer, I’m seeing ample reason for them to fly their banner to ridicule Joe Biden.
So explain this to me. A 2024 meme involving Taylor Swift and the Super Bowl is an indication that Joe Biden was aware of the joke in December 2021? Does Joe Biden even know what a meme is?
Biden’s not on the ballot, but if disparaging him for his stupidity/senility is the purpose of the “Let’s Go Brandon” flag, then it’s probably effectual. The question is how much undecided voters will be nudged by the flag.
