What’s everyone asking for/getting? What’s the coolest gift you’re getting for someone else?
I’m asking for a Playstation 2, but that will never be found (at least for a couple of months) so I’m kinda getting a rain check for my present.

All I want is a used mandolin.
On the other hand, I’m buying/bought presents for at least 8 children who wouldn’t have a Christmas otherwise.
I like doing that better than getting gifts myself.
I got a new furnace. It was a suprise gift to myself, because the old one cacked.
But since it’s -25 windchill outside right now, I’m appreciating it more and more, even w/o pretty ribbons, etc.
Guess it’s safe to tell this; I don’t think my sis ever checks this place. I’m so thrilled with the gift I found for her. She collects “Cincinnatiana”, and I found a great piece of Rookwood art pottery for her.
And for by bro-in-law, who had a stroke, a gizmo that will let him turn lights, fans, etc. on and off with a remote. And a Smithfield ham, because he loves it.
Damn, damn, damn, I wish I could be there for Christmas. We “open presents over the phone” but it’s not the same. I’m so lucky these two are my family because, objectively speaking, they hung the moon and stars. Just thoroughly nice, decent, loving people. The cat and dogs would be playing w/ the wrapping or each–or snoozing–dinner in the oven…oh shit, I wish I could be there.

I am hoping for Steve Martin’s new novella, Shopgirl, and a boxed set of Buffy tapes. My devotions are few, but they are powerful.
My mom and I bought presents for a little 4 year old who wouldn’t have had a Christmas otherwise. We bought her a “Groovy Girl” doll with an extra outfit, A blue ensemble and a red velveteen dress (for the girl, not the doll), some tights and new skivvies to wear with the dress, and two Helen Oxenbury books.
We also got chocolates and marzipan for the family to eat with their Christmas dinner. The people at mom’s work “adopted” a whole family, and together they are taking care of the entire Christmas for this poor single mother with four kids.
It felt very good to wrap up all those marvellous things for other people.
Well I gave myself my Xmas present today- a full housecleaning by my uncle’s amazing cleaning woman- She cleaned under my bed, all my radiators were washed!!?!, and I can now safely eat off any horizontal surface in my house! It’s great!!
I got Claire a boombox and a couple cd’s and I don’t know what to get Andy.
My present for everybody else will be created this weekend- If I can find pickling jars:(
Every year, my dad gives out money as a present, that way we can buy what we like. But he never gives enough. Luckily, my 18th birthday is on the 8th of January, so I’ll be getting money for that as well…I’m thinking of joining the two lots of money together and buying a webcam.
an electric ice cream maker as a family present from my parents… apparently I wanted one
We bought our 7 yo the R2D2 Lego Mindstorms kit, he will be beside himself with excitement when he unwraps it. I tried to make him agree to wanting the entire set of Lemony Snicket books but he was not co-operative.
I bought both kids lots and lots and lots of books including the Jolly Pocket Postman Xmas book. It is about to become a Xmas tradition that we all read it together. If necessary, I will tie the kids to the sofa and insist they enjoy it.
I have no clue.
I barely know what I want for Christmas. I want to be happy and safe. What I really want I’m not getting (I want to take a pottery class)
I painted dishes for my family. I got Le Sang a poster. Another friend of mine is getting some stuffed sealife.
Wow is my life exciting.
I don’t know what I’m getting but it came from Amazon.com. I saw the package arrive. Hubby said the shape of the package surprised him. I’m thinking it’s either the Authorized Greatest Hits CD from Cheap Trick or the Star Wars Trilogy. However, since I told him to send it back so that we could buy more for the kids and he said that it didn’t cost very much, I’m guessing it’s the CD. I suppose there is a slight chance that he got the Adam Ant - Antics in the Forbidden Zone video for me. That would be fun too! I got him two books.
I’m going to make fudge for a lot of people this year. My neighbor says that I make the best fudge she’s ever tasted. I think it’s funny because I make vegan fudge, but whatever makes her happy. I bought some glass containers at the Everything’s a Dollar store.
For the kids, the things I am the most excited about are an electronic keyboard/synthesizer for the seven-year-old and a dinosaur-shaped piano for the two-year-old. The 7yo has always wanted a real piano for as long as she’s been able to talk. I’m hoping this will fill some sort of longing in her heart. The 2yo goes around pretending anything flat and long is a piano and as far as I can tell she actually hears the music in her head while she is pretending. Gee I’m glad their rooms are way upstairs.
You’re getting two books, for starters. I do hope you like them.
I’m getting one of the most wonderful gifts this Christmas. I’m going to be able to spend it with some of the most important people in my life. My mother, sister, and I will all be spending time together this year. I’ve not really had all that much time to spend with either one since leaving for college. And when my father left in the beginning of October well it about killed my mom. She didn’t know what to do because she was married to him for 20+ years. Other than that I won’t be getting anything for Christmas. I’m happy enough to spend the time with the most important people in my life.
I’m getting a new watch. A nice Seiko. My previous one crapped out earlier this year. Coincidentally, it died the day of my father’s funeral. Weird, huh? Anyway, I’m glad to be getting another one (watch, that is. You don’t get a second chance with daddies ). I’ve always worn a watch, and it doesn’t feel right to have a bare wrist.
Well, after reading Tiki God’s post I feel rather shallow. But, I got my husband a set of antique duck decoys and an antique walking stick. I think that is rather cool. I am having a bunch of people over on Xmas Day who have no families to celebrate with. Does that redeem me in the eyes of the Great Tiki?
Not sure what, if anything I’m getting, but we’re getting the kids N64, which I’m sure I’ll spend some time with. Don’t really want or need anything. Saw a really nice Baum and Mercier watch, but I already have a couple of watches, and I don’t need to spend $1200 on someting so unnecessary.
My 2 oldest kids are getting contact lenses. My eldest is getting some gold hoop earrings. My son is getting a bunch of lego crap. My youngest is getting a clock/radio/CD player.
Mrs. D. is getting a pair of earrings. Tanzanite or some such stuff. I made the mistake of going to the store with her. The jeweler pulls out a tray of stones, she picks an emerald cut and says, “Just like this, but twice as big.” Jeweller says, “I’'ll have to check the safe” to which my blushing bride responds, “That would be nice.” It was clear I had no business being there. I don’t even want to see the damn receipt.
Books, books, books. At least, that’s what I’m getting for other people. And a handcrafted crystal dragon for my girlfriend.
And I just hope people give me money, so I can get rid of that credit card debt that always starts mounting around this time of the year …
