That one sticks out for me. IMO, the outfit doesn’t have to be barely there to be tacky as hell. LOTS of celebs either get grandiose dreams of the red carpet or decide to take fashion risks. It makes it fun to play along at home…

That was the costume designer for Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Don’t think she was shooting for movie-stardom, she definitely got attention on the home front and it may have helped her design career.

On another note, I love Bjork and thought the swan dress was adorable. I don’t have any kind of Oscar worship and think if people want to turn up in something quirky then to hell with Joan Rivers and the best-dressed list. I’d rather see that than yet another tired prom-dress.
I wouldn’t call Bjork’s outfit trashy. If someone else wore it, maybe. But on her, it was just silly and quirky. That’s what Bjork does. It’s like Cher-we always know she’ll wear something totally outrageous, and we’d be disappointed if she didn’t.
If you want trashy, how about Fishstick Paltrow’s gothic Heidi ensemble from a few years ago? That was nasty. The SIL Pepto gown would have been okay if it had fit. Oh well, she should be happy, after all, she’s got Cate Blanchette’s Oscar sitting on her mantel.

The last bit of Oscar fashion I really noticed was the series of pins worn by the LOTR folks. The man who designed and made those pins has been making Tolkien jewelry for decades. He sold me a gollum ring in the eighties. Either I lost that ring at a Chinese restaurant a few years ago, or it’s lost somewhere in my apartment. My precious, where is it, my precious? We needs it!
