Who's likely to show up at Oscars half naked or tackily dressed?

I thought there might be an alien incubating on her shoulder.

Okay, not my funniest joke ever.

Heh, I actually like the two most panned dresses of the night-Charlize Theron and Michelle Williams.

Theron’s dress was pure couture, it must have been straight off the runway and completely umodified except to fit her. Besides SJP, she’s the only actress in recent times that has the guts to wear something so insanely couture and I think she generally pulls it off better than SJP because (AFAIK) she’s a former model. The bow was a little much but I appreciated how it furthered the “wrapped up like a present” motif. It was interesting and kinda intellectual, I guess just wrong for the event which tends to favour safe and boring. Gotta admit that I’m not a big fan of the shiney shiney colours but it’s all 80s right now so to that end it was true to current runway trends.

I also adored Williams dress…I think to pull off that colour you have to have a deathly pale Kidman/Williams complexion or a olive/yellow toned Indian/middle-eastern complexion. It reminds me of when Kidman wore that hideous chartreuse coloured dress but with her pale pale skin it looked amazing on her. Anyway, with Williams I adored the delicate frills across the chest and the gathered skirt in the front with the soft hair and red lips. I think the dress was Indian inspired because I own the exact same necklace she’s wearing, that’s a very traditional style of necklace in terms of Indian jewellry, as is the colour. In fact, she’s wearing the exact same colour I’m likely to get married in. I thought she looked beautiful.

Other than that everything kinda bored the hell out of me.

I think I would have liked Michelle Williams’s dress better if it didn’t have the frill on the shoulder. Other than that, I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t like it either.

I love Nicole Kidman and really wish she’d go back to her red hair. She’s not meant to be a blonde.

Thank you! For years I’ve been defending that dress…I thought it suited her perfectly and was so creative. I never understood all the swan-hate. Jeez, even last night Jon Stewart was still cracking wise about it.

I loved it, I wish she’d do another movie just so she could have another oppourtunity to dress up for the Oscars. I wish more people had her courage.

Loved those pics of Trey and Matt, as well. Gods, I wish I’d been watching that year.

I think if Michelle Williams had dyed her hair red and used a more subtle lipstick colour it would have made a better combination.

I thought the frills were okay. My least favourite dress was the one worn by Felicity Huffman. I just really don’t understand why people wear Zak Posen dresses. I have yet to see one that wows me and most of them seem affirmatively ugly.

I just read that Theron’s dress was a Galliano which makes a whole lot of sense…I could smell the couture a mile off of that one.

In the interest of enhacing this discussion, here is Bjork in the swan dress.

And somone mentioned Jodie Foster’s ensemble at the Oscars a few years ago consisting of a shirtless, braless jacket.

(What year did Jodie Foster wear that? I must have missed the Oscar telecast that year.)

Damn- that tweed must have been hell on her nipples. Talk about chafing.

McNew
Well, as Hannibal Lechter said to the Senator:
“Toughened your nipples, didn’t it?”
