@Oredigger77 hasn’t posted for about two years. I always thought they contributed to the discussions.
Always assuming the worst (especially for a prolific every-day’er) when their “seen” and “last post” dates match up, as is the case with @XT (Agnatheist) (Mar. 22/22).
Thanks for thinking of us! We are doing well. I lurk from time to time, but always come around to participate in the Secret Santa, because it’s like, my favorite thing.
Oh, thanks for checking in, I’m glad to know you’re well. Wish you’d both post more though.
Saw @Boyo_Jim in an old thread just now-he was posting regularly thru July '17, came back in early Oct. of that year for 2 quick posts, and that was that.
@Horseflesh has been away for over a year now. I miss him.
Whatever happened to Coldfire?
Last time I saw him he was muttering something about the flame at the heart of a pawnbroker’s diamond…
He married a beautiful woman and discovered there were better things in the world than internet messageboards.
@MEBuckner is MIA for two years.
I just realized that IvoryTowerDenizen hasn’t posted since April and hasn’t logged in since July. That’s unfortunate.
@monstro - does anyone know how she is? Last postings I remember she was fighting a good fight. I don’t see any postings after 2020.
I miss her too. She was an environmental scientist, artist. A bit quirky and respected as a member here iirc. And afaict she’s done with this place, for good reason too.
She was upset that transphobia wasn’t welcomed. She was a great poster other than that, but I don’t miss that aspect being gone from the board.
She was warned and finally topic banned from posting toxic TERF stuff and because of that quit altogether
Nope, that was YWTF her sister. @monstro was not banned at all. She doesn’t even have a warning. But she chose to leave when her sister got thread banned.
I always liked @monstro, I’m sorry she’s gone, but it was not via a warning or banning.
I appreciate the correction.
I’ve been on the watch for him for half a decade. Years ago, he mentioned that he taught the occasional evening class at the college I teach at. So if I was around at night, I’d peek into classrooms, hoping to catch a glimpse.
One semester, there was a Tuesday evening class with a teacher who… looked just like him! (He was well-known after he won the Bulwer-Lytton Prize). I got excited, and decided I’d casually ask “So, do you still travel with a favorite pillow and a favorite parrot?”
Took me a while, but I managed to catch the class on a break. The instructor was answering some questions, but I quizzed a student who was leaving the classroom. Nope, that teacher had a completely different name.
After months of planning my “Come back, Prodigal Poster!” plea, I was crushed…
Thank you for this, Aspenglow–it means a lot.
My last post seems to have been June 22; I finally went to the hospital July 19 with a hemoglobin count of 4.3. (Normal for an adult starts at 11.) I had been so weak for weeks that I just couldn’t get to the computer (I don’t have a smart phone and do my 'puter stuff on a desktop.)
Week in the hospital included surgery to remove tumors and the diagnosis of Stage 3 endometrial cancer. Chemo has been going on for a while and I’ve regained the strength (and ability to sit without pain!) needed for re-starting some of my favorite internet occupations, very much including The Dope!
At this point no one has given me a prognosis. I’m sure they’re waiting to see what the chemo accomplishes. After that, both radiation and surgery have been mentioned as possibilities.
So, in short: I’m very happy to be able to sit here and enjoy the wonderful people of this site and their amazing posts–and I’ll do so as long as I have that option. Long live the Straight Dope Message Board!
