My guess is neither one will be violent, but only because Trump and his gang of neo-Nazis are solidly on track for the nomination. The GOP is the party that is most bitterly divided at top levels, but the GOP establishment isn’t going to shoot the place up, and neither are the Bernie kids. But heaven forbid, if anyone tries to displace Trump, we’ve already seen what his thugs can do, even when NOT provoked. Take their demagogue away, and it won’t just be the convention that’s violent, it’ll be whole cities.
So you think that Hillary is winning based on the alleged favoritism of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and otherwise it might have been Bernie? You must know an awful lot more socialists than I do!
I also had no idea that the chair of the party was that awesomely powerful. So how come Prince Reibar couldn’t do a damn single thing to block Trump, even though Trump was sending the entire party establishment into conniption fits?
Oh boy. That told me I could ignore the rest of the post and not miss anything worth reading.
As far as the OP’s question goes, I rather doubt there will be serious riot type trouble at either convention. No doubt there will be protesters who will embarrass their cause(s) by acting out, but that’s getting to be pretty normal.
Sanders has already said Clinton would make a better president on her worst day than Trump on his best. He’ll endorse Clinton and the Democratic Convention will be as pre-determined as the Republican.
At this point, I’d say the dems. Sanders has lost fair and square, there is no way he could ever catch up to Hillary in pledged delegates. But I think some of his supporters are going to rebel against Hillary.
Trump, so long as he actually gets the nomination he earned, probably won’t see rioting. However if the GOP attempts to take it away and anoint someone else, that’ll cause issues.
Not just metal detectors, either. I work in downtown Tampa. Downtown Tampa was very nearly shut down for the 2012 Pub Convention. Defcon 1, it was. Cops were everywhere, streets were closed, traffic was diverted, the courthouses and all the local-government offices were closed, most businesses had to close, every window near the ground had metal plates over it – it was like they were afraid al-Qaeda would strike or something.
Two months ago, the answer would have been GOP for sure. But now that it looks like Trump has locked down the GOP nomination, there might not be much to fight about. So it looks like Bernie supporters at the Democratic convention.
Although that happens at every convention. I had a friend in St. Paul government when the GOP convention was here. There were plenty of arrests.
There is a group of people that protest. They may be the Phelpsians, or the Tea Party or the anti-WTO crowd or the BLM people - and sometimes it steps over the line into violence.
