Who's next after Trump?

Whoever it is, I simply hope that we won’t get fooled again.

Either Sanders or Franken would bring all the rest of the anti-Semites out of the woodwork. Of course they are probably enthusiastic Trumpers already.

Although I hate myself for saying this, but Trump is such an unmitigated disaster that I think that the Dems should take no chances and choose a white male Protestant. I’m sure there are a few that are experienced and competent.

Who are considered to be leaders among the Democrats? I’m not politically savvy and I can’t think of anyone I’ve heard described as a leader or a unifying individual. Is there such a person in the party?

8 or so years ago the two local politicians I thought needed to be watched for in the future were Chris Christie and Cory Booker. Christie’s political career is dead but I would not count out Booker. Booker has all the positives of Obama and is much better in one aspect. I found that when Obama spoke off the cuff he was pretty boring and much worse than when giving a prepared speech. Booker on the other hand is dynamic and compelling when speaking without a script. I’ve see him do two speeches without a TelePrompTer or notes and he’s a rock star.

It’s not necessary for the next candidate to be a party leader today. I don’t think Obama or GWB or Bill Clinton were leaders prior to their nomination.

I don’t know if he’s announced it but most seem to think Sanders is an atheist. The convention political wisdom is that being ethnically Jewish is a smaller hurdle than being an atheist. No way of knowing if the conventional wisdom is correct until tested.

Well, the DNC thought it important enough in the interests of Hillary to point out to the masses Sanders was Jewish and Sanders is an atheist, neither being comparable in virtue to a Good Christian Methodist Woman.
Anyway, practically any Democrat will win against President Trump.

Not Hillary, of course.

I’m not sure if anyone was “fooled.” Trump has a ~40% approval rating now, and a majority of Americans supported the “Muslim ban”.

I’m not convinced that he will be that easily beatable. A lot can happen in four years, and he will have the advantages of incumbency.

New York Times: TRUMP REELECTED IN HISTORIC LANDSLIDE

It is not only a question of “who” we want, but “what” we want. We need to put Bernie’s program out there like we did in this election and keep the god damn corporate types at arms length, and ESPECIALLY make it clear that we don’t want anyone like Cory Booker. The establishment Democrats are plotting exactly that. If we have one more Democratic administration like that where the cans get kicked down the road, the way is being paved for a Trump on steroids.

I like Tusli Gabbard. She has serious cajones, resigned from the DNC and backed Bernie when nobody else would, and was not scared to go to Syria to investigate the situation and came back to tell everyone that they are being lied to about Syria like every thing else.

Yes, all this country needs is another violently corrupt, filthy scion of a privileged political dynasty to run for president. Do you imagine he’ll declare his candidacy before or after his federal indictment?

Nothing personal but good Og that is one of the stupidest lists I’ve seen in a while. Most of those names would guarantee a Trump/GOP win in 2020.

And Cuomo and Warren are two of the worst suggestions I can imagine. And the fact it has Hillary and Oprah (!!!) on it as serious options demonstrates exactly how stupid it is.

Maybe Mike Tyson?

No, the DNC did no such thing.

Didn’t say they did, said they thought it would be a good ploy to crush that upstart, who dared spoiler the Chosen One’s nomination.
A top staffer at the Democratic National Committee has apologized after suggesting that the organization use Bernie Sanders’ religious beliefs against him in the Democratic primary.

“It might may (sic) no difference, but for KY and WVA can we get someone to ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist,”
Top DNC staffer apologizes for email on Sanders’ religion — Politico 23 July 2016

I very rarely praise my own country, cos it’s not that great anymore, but at least we don’t have this religious crap in our electoral process, and haven’t, lo, these past 100 years.

No, you did say the DNC thought it was important to point out to the masses Bernie’s atheism, and in doing so, suggested they actually did it. What you meant to say is someone on staff at the DNC at one time brought it up, but never acted on it and later apologized.

I don’t think Cory Booker is going to fly. He’s too cozy with the pharmaceutical companies to make a lot of lefties happy.

I wouldn’t count Tim Kaine out. He’s been pretty aggressive in some of the Cabinet hearings. I wish he’d been that feisty on the trail.

One person who might be worth watching is Chris Van Hollen. He’s a new senator in Maryland after spending 14 years in the House. He’s been staking out very progressive positions and is very popular here. Not sure how persuasive a speaker he is, but hoping to find out at his town hall this weekend.

Tammy Duckworth. Not only served as a military officer but maimed in the service of the nation. Let’s see Trump and the usual GOP suspects and hangers-on mock her disability or imply that she isn’t patriotic because she’s a Democrat.

She’ll be in her fourth year in the Senate in 2020, and won’t be up for re-election until 2022 so she doesn’t face the tough choice of running for President or her Senate seat. And she had two terms in the House before the Senate, so she’s not only electable but re-electable.

They’ll probably be some birther bullshit because [del]she’s not a white man[/del] she was born in Thailand, even though to a citizen parent and thus a citizen at birth. But whoever the Dems run, the GOP propaganda machine will gin up something.

After it was wikileaked.
