ETA: But what was killing me until that was that every bluff I tried against Manson, he called; and every value bet I made, he folded! It was pretty crazy. Weirdly, though, I was still staying pretty close somehow: I guess I was just picking up good cards.

I was chagrined that Manson was going to get the standings points despite conceding, since our crazy all-in bets to end it rolled his way. But then now I see it doesn’t count in the standings unless we get at least four players. So if one more person joins…

Hey, if you can make it work for you, it’s not really wrong then is it? 
Exactly! It’s just what has always felt comfortable to me. It might help that it goes against the grain, so people don’t have a good feel for how to deal with it (I like to think that it’s sort of like quicksand or something, lol). If a lot of thinking players used the same approach, it might not work as well.
