Who's watching trump's Address to Congress tonight (3-4-25)?

Looks like the Democrats are ready to play a game of pickleball after the speech.

When the transformation is complete, he will look like Ted Cruz.

There is at the NYTimes site.

Oh my god, if I was that kid and the President of the United States just deadnamed and mocked me…

This just in: Elon Musk has fired the 13-year-old Secret Service agent. (Stolen from elsewhere)

Reclaiming the Panama Canal?!? That’s news, right?

~Max

How dare the Dems not stand up and clap for things he hasn’t done!

I have no idea what he’s talking about. He went from Greenland to Islamic terrorists and 13 families and then Putin. What did I miss.

He’s been talking about it for two months:

Marco Rubio has been assigned to Panama, Greenland is invited to join the U.S., Pakistan apprehended an Islamic terrorist involved in the Abbey Gate bombing.

~Max

Somehow I was only aware of the Greenland thing, not the Panama thing. But thanks!

~Max

I’m not watching, but I hear him from elsewhere in the house.

Is this record long for this kind of U.S. presidential speech?

Autocrats go long. Fidel Castro went on for many hours.

Apparently Ukraine caved on the minerals deal.

~Max

Are we two hours into this dumpster fire now?

I think he’s wrapping up, but I’m calling it a night.

10:22PM Central time: The Democratic response wrapped up a few minutes ago, and on NBC, there was no sound when the reporters started discussing it. I can’t help but think that this was not random technical difficulties.

As usual, I will post my thoughts before reading then go back to review the thread.

Melania looks rough. It looks like she has fake teeth on the top like the retainer type you get if you’ve lost some teeth and are waiting for repair.

That was a very long speech. Initial Republican clapping went on a long time. It made me think of Stalin and everyone being afraid to be the first to stop clapping.Democrats were not going to support anything. First guy gets thrown out right away.

Lies, lies and more lies! I want to punch him in the face. He did several minutes on social security. We get it, there are some mistakes in the database but they are not receiving any benefits. He keeps on with the no taxes on social security because it sounds good but most recipients pay no taxes; this policy only benefits the rich.

Trump goes for the heartstrings with the kid with cancer. He fails to mention that he radically cut funding for childhood cancer research . Still think it was nice to make the kid an honorary Secret Service agent but all I could think about was that he had an impressive mustache for a 13 year old.

He also went all in on the anti-trans agenda. I saw Riley Gaines looking uncomfortable. I am glad he called out that mother. Now everyone knows what a hateful homophobe she is.

Talking about how the farmers were going to feel some pain but will still love him. Yes, if he bails them out again.

Lying some more about how the car companies love his policies. I don’t think they are so happy about the tariffs.

More demonizing of immigrants. But green cards are now for sake for just a cheap $5 million. I still think he thinks people seeking asylum were released from insane asylums. My newest theory iexplains why all of the probationary workers who were fired were told it was for poor performance when many has excellent reviews. I think he hears that someone is on a probationary period and assumes that they did something wrong and was placed on probation for further monitoring rather than being fired outright. He does not realize that people are initially hired for a probationary period to see if they are a good fit.

He’s going to make American healthy again by cutting environmental regulations as well as food safety regulations.

Did I mention that everything he said was a lie. Bragging about stupid nonsense. I don’t care about you renaming things. Mandatory death penalty for killing an officerr

FWIW here is senator Sanders’ response to the SOTU address. I do not think this is the offical dem response…just his response and it it not hard to guess what his opinion is. I know he is not popular here but if you are interested…(23 minutes):

Trump and his handlers want to fire everyone and either leave the jobs empty or replace the workers with cronies. Probationary workers are simply the easiest to fire, so they are the lowest hanging fruit in the process. Probationary workers don’t get the benefit of advance notice and they generally can’t appeal their termination to the Merit Systems Protection Board (although if they were fired for political reasons, they can).

I heartily endorse psychobunny’s theory that trump thinks ‘asylum’ and ‘insane asylum’ are the same thing. He’s said on more than one occasion ‘insane asylums-- they’re like mental institutions on steroids’. So the moron thinks that there are normal or ordinary mental institutions, then there are extreme versions (which still exist, not just as an obsolete term) which are known as ‘insane asylums’.

However, I have to agree with Tired_and_Cranky on the probationary worker thing. That’s all Musk, and as stupid and poorly planned and wrong as his worker-firing spree is, I don’t think he’s quite as moronic as trump to equate ‘probationary’ with the term ‘on probation’. He’s just targeting the easiest victims.
