I submit there is a difference between “trolling” and “being a troll.” I think everyone, at some point, could be accused of trolling, for fun or for profit, but that does not necessarily make them a troll. Seems to me it has more to do with consistent or constant behavior rather than just a few isolated posts.

Yea I know, thats what the PIT is for. I just wish they could stay on subject. I get all worked up reading everyones post with their differing points of view, and then someone goes off on a personal vendetta that has nothing to do with the original post.

Well, in their defense, it is in the Pit, so they can rant if they want - hell, I started the thread with a rant and a flame, so that’s ok.
But jumping into an intelligent debate on GD and being ignorant, well, that’s another matter.

I would also note that, while I prefer that even in the Pit we maintain the standards of the Straight Dope by avoiding ignorance, it can not be said that I have never baited anyone, here. I simply prefer to bait ignorance and stupidity with facts and logic rather than obscenities, profanity, vulgarisms, and name-calling.
I think it gives me an edge when battling buffoons like John John to make them foam at the mouth while I am keeping my cool. I am certainly flaming them and I would be dishonest to claim otherwise. I think I’m having more fun, however.

Well said, Tom. That’s been my strategy for a long while, with such notables as the Phaed, Cyb, some of the more rabid Pound Puppies, and to a lesser extent folks like Pashley, Freedom, and CB.
As long as I determine that no one can push my buttons, it’s easy to stay cool and push others’.
