This morning a co-worker showed me a ring that had belonged to her father. I thought it had an interesting look to it, but couldn’t really make any kind of identification. So I took a couple of pictures that may be seen here.
Sorry about the poor quality. I tried three different angles under a lamp in an effort to make some of the details stand out a bit more.
Anybody have any ideas about who is being represented here?
It looks to me like a warrior figure wearing a helmet with a large crest, but it could just as easily be a lady with a fancy hat.
Anybody?
Damn. This is why I love you people.
It’s not a perfect match, but extremely close. The helmet on my friend’s ring has a bulbous element (with slight crosshatching) beneath the crest, which is not on the image Prof. Pepperwinkle linked to. But IMHO there are simply too many precise correlations for the resemblance to be a coincidence.
Mind we’re talking only about the design engraved onto the stone. The bands are not at all alike.
Just Google Image “Roman soldier ring”. There may be something else there that’s closer.
Prof. Pepperwinkle, I bow to the majesty of thy Google-Fu.
