My brother the Air Force Reservist works as an electrician at a base. They were closed (as much as a base can close). He called me delighted with the day off.
I work for a labor union, so per our staff union contract, we have all federal holidays off. No one, that I know of, took the day off, however. Considering the former President’s politics in regard to organized labor (during his political years), I think most of us worked extra hard today!
Happy
City of Stockton is supposed to get all holidays that the State of California gets. But California decided to be patchy about it, so we all got to work. Some State offices closed, some (like DMV) stayed open.
We weren’t…but someone in the building definitely had the day off (to the best of my knowledge, all private companies none of them have overwhelmingly close ties to government) - the parking lot was empty.
I intern for the district office of a state assemblymember (the assembly being the lower house of the state legislature here in New York), and since Friday is one of the days I go in, I had it off this week. We’re located in a state office building, and both the building management and the Assembly Speaker separately approved the day off.
Sunglass store not closing; state Senator’s office, closing, except for a couple of letter-answering types.
My father works for a board of education in KY (director of transportation), and the state actually called on Wednesday to tell them that they had to close.
My question is, had this happened in say, March, would schools have been closed for the funeral? Would they have let students out for the day?
