Why are there no store-brand Doritos?

Does the Dorito company hold the patent on “sprinkling stuff on a corn chip”?

There’s plenty of store brand plain corn chips but nobody does nacho, ranch, etc. except Doritos. Seems there’s plenty of demand. What gives?

Maybe it’s a regional thing; all the supermarket chains where I live (Western PA) have a store brand nacho cheese tortilla, though I’ve never seen a store brand ranch tortilla, or equivalents of the other Doritos flavors.

There’s an Aldi Brand Cool Ranch. And I think there’s a Kroger brand Cool Ranch, too.

Wal-mart used to sell nacho cheese flavored tortilla chips under the brand name “Medallion.” They were far less flavorful than real Doritos but also far cheaper and not bad. I haven’t seen them in the stores lately.
