Boris, I think that it’s just a lot of us are cat people. You wouldn’t (or maybe you would, I dunno) believe the number and variety of Kat/Cat based names I’ve run across.
There’s also Kat2, but I haven’t seen her (I’m assuming) post in a while.
You were right, Boris, I’m female. I’ve mentioned my husband in other posts; he can confirm this.
Your poor kitties! I agree that you should move and adopt more cats, though. They need you.
Re dogs: when I was little I believed, in the face of all evidence, that all dogs were male and all cats were female. We had a female dog at the time, so I have no idea where I got that. There’s a family story, though, that my aunt once told a classroom full of impressionable children (I wasn’t one of them) that a tiger was a female lion. So this kind of gender/species misconception may run in the family, somehow.

BTW My zodiac sign is Leo so I guess I’ve always been intrigued by cats. I’m not really big on that kind of stuff, maybe somewhere in my subconscience I connected with that Tom Jones song. I don’t know. I like dogs too I have a dachsund named Nathan. Actually, he’s smaller than most cats. Sorry, this post is kinda nonsensical rambling, it’s lunchtime, I’m bored.
so you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts. what’s so amazing about really deep thoughts? Tori Amos
I thought the same thing about tigers being female lions when I was a kid. I think it is because a tiger looks more or less like a striped lioness, and for some reason, in the minds of kids, stripes don’t distinguish cats as much as manes do. I think a lot of people think lions are the biggest and toughest cats around just because of the mane. All tigers have going for them is size.
Funny thing is, I was talking to a friend of mine, major dog-fancier, whose new husband has a cat. She likes cats okay too, but she’s wild about her pooches. I opined that dogs were kind of masculine and cats were kind of feminine, and she said something like, “No way! It’s just the opposite! Cats are cold, aloof, and self-absorbed; dogs are sociable, communicative, and warm.”
I said, yeah, but cats are delicate, cautious creatures, while dogs are always rolling around on their backs, being aggressive, taking up way too much space, etc.
“No no, my girl dogs are very delicate. Look.” She pointed to her biggest dog, who was sitting watching us talk with her forefeet crossed, very ladylike. The cat was eyeing us imperiously from a barstool. She had a point.
