It’s almost 1 a.m. as I write these words in the Pacific Time zone.
My reason for being up this late? Call it plain, old-fashioned anxiety. I’ve had it in spades over the last few weeks, and it keeps getting worse.

It wastes time that can be spent on other things. I mean you really don’t need it. I mean I rarely ever fall asleep and I’m still sane. Everyone who actually does sleep is wasting valuable time! Now I need to go watch some more infomercials and pray for sweet sweet death.
weeeeell, it’s about 6:30 pm in taiwan, and the BIG GIRL’s finished my tummyrub, and they’re all down eating dinner, and the LITTLE BOY’s left the internet on, and i brought my supply of catnip… what would YOU do?

I work from 7pm to 7am with lots of free time. Nuff said.
It’s just past 9pm Monday night here, the Emmys were cancelled so there’s nothing on television, all hell has broken loose in Pakistan, and as it’s approaching summer I’m always awake well before 5am anyway.
Besides, sleep is for the weak.
G’morning! I just got up and I see lots have posted here. It’s around 8:30 AM here. The infomercials have all but died out on the TV, (HURRAY!) and court TV is on so I get to watch folks be increadably stupid, selfish and nasty towards each other, or else I’ll switch over to the kid channel and watch cartoons. Been raining out and the sky is cloudy and overcast so I know the weeds in my garden will do well today.
I might go back to bed.
With the combination of a young family and a 17 hour time differential, I can be on on-line at any weird time. For me at the moment SDMB is the upside to sleep deprivation. Often have been reading/posting with the 1yo asleep in my arms … awwww, so cute
I work second shift at a job where we have to keep going until we are finished. Sometimes I get home at one AM. Other times it might be four or five AM or even later. I live alone, so the Straight Dope Message Board is my social life.
Theoretically, I’m writing an essay.
The Insomnia Brigade of the SDMB - the few, the proud, the ones-who-drink-too-much-coffee-during-the-day!
Part of having the best job in the world is that my day starts at 10.15 (GMT) in the morning.
Did you know that the Board is disabled for maintenance at 0930 GMT most days? Another reason not to get up early…
Hey! That’s my cue to go to bed!
I’ve always been something of a night owl.
Because I’ve got a toddler, and work all day, when I get home in the evenings I don’t have a lot of time to myself. So staying up after he goes to bed (and husband retires) is my only true “me” time. It’s not good for meeting my sleep needs, but it does help me keep my sanity.
I’m a college student, I think that’s reason enough (plus, thanks to Columbus day, I have no classes until Thursday.)
Of course, on classes unti l2 PM everyday does help
During the summer I’ve posted as late (or early) as 6:30 AM. Now I can only do that on the weekends.
I have crazy job hours. I have no set wake/sleep schedule any more.
I think myself awake.
No, really.
I’ll try to go to sleep, but I’ll wind up thinking over something that’s bothering me again and again. Next thing I know, it’s 3AM. Dammit.
Unemployed. 'Nuff said.
<— no life.
Actually, it’s more like what Cranky said. After the kids are in bed, it’s my time. And since my husband works nights, we have no social life to speak of, so the SDMB fills in. And a mighty fine bunch o’ folks to hang with, too.
I’m a night owl. Plus, it’s the only time I’ve got the house to myself.
Not to mention I’m addicted to the internet. I try to log on as often as possible.
