Why Aren't You Watching the Superbowl?

I am not a sports person. Therefore, I was as shocked as anyone when I took a job at a sports website (no - not the one you are thinking of). For 4.5+ years, major sporting events involved last minute programming and being on-call, in case of production problems. Now, having left the company at the end of the year, I can revel - it was the Superbowl, and I didn’t have to care!

I didn’t watch because the outcome is meaningless, I’m sick of being help up for ransom by billionaire owners and I’m sick of society treating jocks like their games are REALLY important. Additionally, football is a really dumb game that rewards people for just being huge.

FWIW, I think about only 40% of Americans actually watch the game that we are told everyone watches.

I’ve never understood why I was supposed to be interested in watching a game I don’t play, between people I don’t know. Even if I had some sort of connection it would be horribly dull-- it’s rarely good football.

How about we improve it by not letting the coaches anywhere near the stadium? The players would actually have to do it all on their own, as a team, using their own judgement, etc.

Plus, explosions, 'cause if somebody doesn’t lose an eye, it’s just no fun.
