Why did my Apple TV stop responding?

I suddenly can’t use my Apple TV.

When I hit the app in my iPhone, the little white light comes on on the Apple TV box, and the app comes up on my phone, but I can’t do anything.

I press the big Menu button and nothing happens.

If I push the “play/pause” button in the bottom left corner, the TV makes the “boop” sound, but that’s it. Nothing else.

It happened about a week ago.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Seriously - yank out the power cable on the AppleTV and reset it. That usually helps.

Yep, did the power cord and the feed cord to the tv.

W00t! I went back and unplugged everything and then re-plugged it, and now Apple TV box is working. Thanks, friedo! Just took two tries instead of one.

But now I’ve got a new problem. It says that I have to give an Apple access code as well as my Apple account password to get into the Apple/iTunes section. I can access Netflix okay, but now I have to have an access code for iTunes, in addition to my password?

I think Apple has had a higher problem to success ratio with its TV products than all the Newtons that came before it. Maybe it’s just too simple for them.

Sounds like two-factor authentication. Apple should have sent the access code in question to your iPhone/ipad/mac or whichever device is already signed in to your Apple account.
