Why did they have to go mess up a great ending to a great series?!

I loved the ending of “The X-Files” last season. It was a great way to end a great series, but now they have to go and ruin it by having another season WITHOUT MULDER, THE MAIN CHARACTER! Now they’re going to have Lucy Lawless (I don’t know how to spell her name so I’m just going to spell it that way) on the show. You know the producers can’t find anyone else when they choose an actress like her to be on the show(no offense to her because that’s my own opinion). I think if they’re going to have another season, they should stick to the original plot of the show, finding monsters and aliens and such.

I think the reason they decided to continue is because what’s important about the show are the X-Files themselves, not who is hunting them down.

I think the reason they decided to continue is because what’s important about the show are the piles and piles of money it’s making Fox and Chris Carter.

I guess your right, those selfish fools.

Yeah, well, that too. Let me rephrase it somewhat.

I guess the reason they figured they could continue to make great gobs of money off the show is because it’s the X-files themselves that are interesting, not the FBI agents.

Are you sure about that? I mean, I know people who watch the show just because they Scully or Mulder are/were cute.

Yeah, but I doubt the really hard-core fans watch the show for that reason. And I think there are enough of those types of fans to keep the show afloat for at least another season.

i’m glad to see Mulder go. His character started out as dark and driven, but became more self-righteous and cocky as years went on. (Maybe as a parallel to Mr. Duchovny himself?)

I don’t really like Scully anymore either. My favorite tough bitch now cries in at least every other episode.

I dig Agent Doggett a lot. I don’t like Reyes 'cause she reminds me of Troi from Star Trek. I’m looking forward to see how Cary Elwes and Lucy Lawless figure into this…

…but I’m not optimistic. Nor am I really feeling any amount of anticipation like I used to for the series.

I hear Chris Carter is in negotiations to do another X-Files movie. It’s no surprise, as a couple years ago I often heard that there would be a few more seasons, and then the story might end with another movie. But given the show’s waning popularity, I wonder if it’ll be too little too late.

My personal feelings is that the while the show was mainly about the X-File cases, they were driven by Mulder’s passion for uncovering “truths”. Without Mulder, it seems so blah now. With Mulder, it was a question of what was happening and why; with Scully, Doggett and Reyes, it feels like they care more about solving the case than understanding it.

I’m not as excited about the new season as I used to be. I am looking forward to seeing Cary Elwes, though. I will be disappointed if he’s just another A.D. Kersh; here’s hoping he’s more A.D. Skinner. I miss Skinner.

My problem with the last season of the X-Files is that it looked like nothing more than a cheap setup for the next season…let’s see, we’re losing the Mulder character, and Scully just had a baby, so…let’s bring in a male character who doesn’t believe in the supernatural, and a female character who’s a complete flake! The original concept behind the series, that the male lead character was the UFO-chaser and the female character was the disbelieving scientist, was fresh and turned traditional TV stereotypes on their head. Reversing the roles doesn’t make for a great twist on the series–it just brings back the stereotype that the series initially avoided!

I got into watching the X-Files for the great one-shot episodes, the old “monster of the week” shows. However, what really made me a fan of the show was the entire mythology of the series, and Mulder’s never-ending quest for the Truth. Frankly, the series should have ended sometime last season, before Mulder became the occasional guest star. And is anyone looking forward to plots centered around Scully’s baby? Ugh. You can see the plots coming from a million miles away. Tug at audience’s heartstrings by kidnapping baby/giving baby strange disease/physical problems/etc. Pull the plug, already, Mr. Carter, and give the show a fitting resolution.
