Are you being whooshed or am I?
TOMYRYS. one tough Queen
Yes.
…
Well that’s a relief.
I like Bogart movies. Simple as that.
I’ve always counted myself among those who felt that the SDMB was fine without avatars. When they showed up anyway, I looked around for a theme that would allow me to hide avatars on my display. Unable to find one, I decided to just not have an avatar. And then, the software assigned me one anyway (a stupid letter “K” in a stupid colored box (can’t remember what color, blessedly))! So I cleaned my scanner, scanned a blank sheet of paper, and used the resulting image. I’m told that on some themes, it looks like my avatar is a blank sheet of paper, but on the theme I chose, it looks like I managed to avoid having an avatar.
Really, I’m a wonderful person, a delight to all and sundry, kind, generous, compassionate, and righteous (without being self-righteous). Some things I’m just NOT a good sport about.
Current avatar is the bird I currently own. My previous avatar was her predecessor.
I wanted to pay respect to the species destined to become the next apex species of the world. Hopefully my homage will be favorably received by our soon-to-be overlords and they will spare me the torture and extermination that will surely befall the rest of you. I may have to sweeten the deal with a truckload of Little Friskies®.
Plus, he looks like my dearly departed cat, Tibby VIII.
I just wanted a simple and bold bit of iconography that would contrast with everybody else and make it easy to spot my own posts in a long list. The character of Red Skull is irrelevant and is not intended to suggest or represent anything about my online personality. It’s like tying a colorful ribbon on the handle of your suitcase to make it visible on the luggage carousel.
As one of the Board’s few Israelis - maybe the only one these days? - I considered it my prerogative to use Srulik as my avatar.
I’m a pirate.
When I started using an avatar, about 20 years ago, the Iberian lynx (Pardelluchs in German, which I mock-latinize Pardel Lux) was about to go extinct and I wanted to express my sadness about that fact through this picture. The lynx has made a bit of a recovery since then, let’s hope the trend reversal lasts.
Myself, wearing the only one of my style face masks that I can’t get away with wearing at work.
Ah, fond memories of my K&E log-log duplex decitrig. Had to take a special college class to learn how to use it.
It’s my cat.
She’s called Meave
I’m an editor.
Mine is an ironic meta-commentary on the anonymity of the internet.
Ha, no, it’s actually an idea I got because my older son is always looking over my shoulder when I’m on the couch browsing the SDMB on my iPad and yelling out “dad’s on old person Reddit again!”. He keeps saying he’s going to figure out who I am on the board to see what I’ve been posting. Which wouldn’t be a big deal except I’ve discussed his emotional issues in a few threads, which might embarrass him to read.
I figured the easiest way he could do that was if he saw my avatar in the upper right and look for it in posts. So I made what looks like a generic account avatar next to the menu and search icons. Hoping it will throw him off a bit if he does get snoopy.
And, ok, a little bit the meta-commentary thing too.
Mine was just a snowflake, but I changed it to a snowflake with Ukrainian colors earlier this year to show support. My grandfather was born in Lviv (Lemburg, Austria at the time) and immigrated to the US when he was just a baby in the 19-oughts.
My old AfrikaBurn theme camp logo
Chronos is, of course, the personification of time, and is usually pictured holding an hourglass. I figured that at 100x100 resolution, a dude holding an hourglass would probably be difficult to make out, but the hourglass itself would be about the right level of detail.
In case anyone’s wondering, it’s a large-font Wingdings 6 character, edited in Paint to add some color.
