When a picture is linked in a post and I’m browsing in Tapatalk, the picture displays in the post, but when I’m browsing with Safari, it shows up as a link. I have to click on it to see the picture.
Why the difference? Could we get that feature for browsers operating on computers?
I would assume that’s a feature of the Tapatalk app. Browsers, not being intended for just reading web forums, would just display the page as it’s coded.
I’m guessing a userscript could be thrown together to create a similar result in your browser.
I found an albums-cover post in Café Society, here to test it. I then went into the extension’s preferences to adjust the size to “0”, which displays the link at the original size.
Any images on an entire page that’s linked won’t display, though.
And this is the reason I always use direct image links here. I actually sometimes feel a bit guilty for hotlinking, if the images are from a site I normally support via ads.
There used to be a Greasemonkey script by a Doper designed to handle all this. It would even play YouTube videos in an overlay.
