Why do online dating profiles have a yes/no for self depreciation?

I noticed some online dating forms have a yes/no option for self deprecation. Do some people tolerate zero self deprecation in a partner? I find it hard to imagine a person who never makes a joke at his or her own expense, and I can’t imagine the person who would like that person.

Sometimes people can go overboard on that type of remark, but sometimes people go overboard on lots of things. Why is self deprecation listed beside smoking as a preference like that?

That’s just Spring Street. It’s a joke. See? Ha ha? You should put “no” so I know you have no sense of humor.

Oh, the clue should have been that they also have, say, “Neon” as an option for “What’s your sign?”

They ask about self-love, too … why didn’t that bother you?

Funniest spelling error in a title ever. "Look, I don’t wanna know how much you’re worth now, dammit. I wanna know how much you’ll be worth then.

Oh! Sometimes to spellcheck a word I type it in the Google toolbar and hit search, and then when it asks me “did you mean …?” I assume that’s what I really did mean and copy/paste it. What’s extra lame is that I was going to say “self effacement” to avoid the spelling challenge altogether. Deprecation. Oh boy.

If people could really predict their depreciation, nobody would bother clicking “long term relationship.”

I’m deprecated. Or at least I feel obsolete, sometimes…
