Why Do People Drink Milk?

Fast food, chips, various snack foods, cigarettes, alcohol?

Fast food, chips, various snack foods, cigarettes, alcohol?

I wasn’t aware tobacco was a food item, but I digress…

Fast food, chips, various snack foods, and alcohol are all fine in moderation. Just like anything else.

So I ask again (and I apologize for the slight hijack)… what foods are bad for us that deserve to be pulled from the shelf by the FDA?

Actually isn’t alcohol in moderation good for you?

I agree that skim milk is just opaque water. I’ll only drink the 3.25% Vitamin D stuff. Tried 2%, 1%, skim, goat’s milk. Even cow’s milk right out of the udder (filtered of course). Only the 3.25% tastes good to me but mmmm… yum-ee.

A glass of red wine a day is good for you, that’s about it. And even then, you get the same, and possibly even stronger benefits from other things that are out there.

in response to the “FDA would have pulled it off the shelves” theory, I know that some (my mother) would argue that the reason it hasn’t is because of the Dairy Industry, its $$$ and its lobbyists. There really is a whole conspiracy issue about this.

I think moderation is important… I mean drinking too much water can be fatal and I don’t mean drowning. It messes up the sodium balance in your system and shocks it into death. I’ve seen articles where people have killed their kids this way.

I also agree about the lobbyists… look at what the tobacco lobbyists perpetuated in the tobacco heyday! Cigarettes were touted as good for you and sent as part of their rations to the GI’s overseas in WW2.

Why are we the only species that uses computers?

Why are we the only species that compares itself to other animals?

Do you really think cows sit there admiring the wool coat on a sheep?

Or maybe there are wolves that envy the hopping ability of kangaroos? (zoo wolves)

The ‘We are the only species’ arguments are ridiculous.

What next? You want to end space travel because owls don’t do it? Or surgery becasue rhinos don’t do it?

sheese!

To give up milk, I’d have to give up the consumption of chocolatey desserts, and that’s a sacrifice I’m just not willing to make.

And we wouldn’t need so much O2 if the anaerobic organisms hadn’t started tolerating, then using so damn much of it.

I don’t like milk at all. I can’t smell milk without gagging, and sometimes just looking at it bothers me. I’m not lactose imtolerant, either, I just hate milk. I haven’t had any milk since I was four
years old. Most of my family doesn’t like milk either. We almost never have milk in the
house.

If you start banning milk, then you’ll have to beat me into submission and pry the icecream scoop out of my cold hands. I have been subjected to a daily-free diet in my former life; never again!

Aside from the ethical issues, it’s just like another food group. There’s a historical basis for drinking milk, and the cows have been bred for that purpose.

And I’m happy to say that I’m on of the 10% in dakravel’s post.

I’d imagine because it is hard to get goat semen out in comparable amounts.

Plus the consistency is all wrong. Well, that, and the fact that saying “Man, I could go for a cold glass of Goat Semen!” just sounds so…

I dunno, wrong.

You can have my Ben & Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk Ice Cream when you pry it out of my cold dead hand.

Here’s a semi-related thread on how we figured out that cow’s milk would be good for us.
