I think Marc was merely attempting to nicely point out that you have been talking and talking and talking and talking and talktalktalktalktalking about this issue for many pages and days, and NOT ONE person agrees with you. NONE. You have changed no minds; you have persuaded no one of the justice of your cause or even the legitimacy of your point of view. Many people would be amazed at such dogged persistency. But then, your singular ability to beat a dead horse into dead-horse atoms and beyond is unrivaled.
Some people just do not know when to a topic should be dropped because it has been exhausted. You are Exhibit A for all such people, and since mincing words with you on this point appears to piss you off, I won’t bother to try.
Or perhaps you continue to flog away so that when you inevitably get the last word (as others fall by the wayside due to exhaustion or boredom) you can tell yourself you’ve won the argument, even though you manifestly have not. In that case, have at it. But it is certainly “my place” to say this thread ought to have a stake driven through its cold dead heart, and I have no problem exercising that right.
Not if you’re involved, they don’t.
Sorry to be so blunt, but your post “just rubbed me the wrong way and I thought I’d say so.”
Feel better now, Jodi? I know you needed to rant a little more at me, and I’m always happy to provide a little stress release for those who seem to need it.
I hadn’t posted a word here in a week, and my last post was a dozen posts prior to the last, which was yours. Kabbes and flowbark came in and revived the thread, with Kabbes * specifcally asking me to respond to something* .
So I did.
Think you can manage to deal with it without having an anuerysm?
C. If I need a little stress release, it won’t be from you. Lord knows what you’d charge me for it.
I wasn’t talking about that. I was talking about Marc fairly nicely suggesting the thread be allowed to die, and you getting your undies in a knot over that suggestion, as if he had personally insulted you, and as if the suggesiton was not a good one. No, not a good one – a fabulous one.
Lemme check. Yep, pretty sure. Now why don’t you give that dead pony a few more kicks? Or, better yet! Post a few more roll-eye smilies – they’re so effective, much better than trying to articulate an actual point of view.
Ooooo…insinuate that I’m a hooker! You forget, jodi…I don’t find that insulting!
If marc, or you, or ANYONE, finds ANY thread is no longer interesting to them, * don’t read it * - in much the same way that I’m sure you don’t read lots of threads to begin with! But to feel the need to inform others, (in this case, it would be Flowbark and kabbes) that they should let the thread die because YOU don’t want to participate anymore is presumptuous, rude, and unnecessary. It’s like being at a party, being with a few people in the corner and talking about Flowbees. You talk for awhile and finally decide you are bored talking about Flowbees. Others have come along and joined what is for you an old discussion about Flowbees. Rather than move away and join some other discussion, are you going to turn to them and tell them they should drop it because YOU are bored with it? If so, can you fill me in on when YOU became the center of the known universe?
Correctamundo, Jodi! Stoid is known for being completely unwilling to either have or articulate a point of view. That’s what pisses people off about me so much, I’m so blankly without opinion or the willingness to fight for it. I define wishy washy.
Way to miss the point, STOIDELA. I don’t care if you hang around defending the august institution of prostitution until you’re blue in the face. You are, as I said, the dead-horse-beater non pariel around here, and I fully intend to leave you to it. But you have NO RIGHT to tell people who notice the horse is dead, and wish you had the sense to just let it lie there, that they cannot post that opinion. And, if they do, it pisses you off – well, poor little you.
I read what I want, and I comment on what I want – including your incomprehensible inability to let anything go, and your tendency to find insult and nettlement where manifestly none is intended. And if you don’t like it, then don’t read my posts, m’kay? See how that works both ways?
Anyway, have fun beating this topic into the ground and, when you do, be sure to congratulate yourself on the brilliancy of your arguments. Don’t let the fact than not one person weighed in to agree with you stop you from congratulating yourself – hey, you got the last word in, didn’t you? Irrefutable proof of an incisive debater!
FWIW, I am typically sympathetic to much of what Stoidela says, mostly for reasons of temperament.
But I prefer my posts to have some sort of analytic or factual information: I try to avoid posting simple statements of agreement (or disagreement) because they merely reflect my opinion and (to me) are irrelevant in a public forum. Perhaps others feel the same.
I’ve wondered whether Stoidela bothers a lot of righties because of the way that much of her discourse is essentially moral in nature. I suppose that if a libertarian (or G*d forbid, a fundamentalist) were equally judgmental, I might be bothered as well.
And let’s face it: Stoid is the women you love to hate. Nobody stimulates lenghthier debates. Check out the stats: Sex work: 204 replies, Religion& Child abuse: 117, and let’s not forget “Ok Stoid, Hunting or free range beef” - 134 responses. I started a thread on basically the same topic, minus the “Let’s kick Stoid around for a while” undertone and not only did it have less response, but it missed Scylla’s evocative description of why he likes to hunt (which 'ol Stoid didn’t let stand for a microsecond).
Not that Scylla changed my mind. Changing minds is pretty tough.
Hmm. Okay:
[li]I don’t think all of this horse is dead yet - just its brain[/li][li]I ought really to take responsibility for flogging its ass - I did after all ask Stoid to respond to me.[/li][li]A little peace please?
Stoid, FWIW (not very much I’m guessing), I disagree with you that prostitution is not part of the objectification of women. I agree with you 100% that mass media is just as (if not more) culpable but we don’t fix problems by saying that since A is broken there is no point fixing B. Attitudes need to be attacked and changed at all points - something I know that you agree with me about having read your attitudes to PC language (another area we agree).[/li]
Basically, I don’t really see your logic that putting a scantily clad woman next to a car to try to sell the car IS objectification and yet women is positions of supplication to the camera in porn or women trying to get men to pay to use their body for half an hour ISN’T objectification.
To simply say that the rest of society is just as bad just isn’t good enough.
