Why do you BLEEPING swear in your Subjects?

Yeah, I never do. So why do you? A lot of Subjects contain swearing, which aren’t part of the questions.

Maybe you should take a poll, here ** handy, ** since most of us AREN’T from Florida, maybe the results won’t be tainted!!

I don’t swear in my subjects or at my subjects either!

Good question, handy. It doesn’t bother me, although it’s unnecessary.

I’ve been having some religious discussions with an e-mail friend, and I’ve stolen lots of Doper wisdom about the Bible, fundamentalists, etc. She asked me for the link to the Board, and of course I gave it to her. (Aha! Another convert!)

But I had to suggest she hang out in GQ and GD, cuz MPSIMS and IMHO and the Pit (whodathunkit?) have been chockfull of fuck this and fuck that in the subject lines, and the Dope was starting to look like a teen board. It was kinda like taking a friend to your favorite restaurant and finding bugs in your food.

Seems to be better lately though – maybe everyone was having a bad week.

I asked a similar question in the Pit (which is where most of the profanity-laden subjects are posted) a couple months ago. I didn’t receive a whole lot of good answers.

I suspect that people feel it’s the Pit, so they have to make it “Pit-worthy.” They do this by adding the f-word into every subject line.

Frankly, I think it makes them look like idiots.

And in David B’s honor, I recently posted a thread in the pit that had “*ucking” in the subject line. That way the reader could guess what it was.

Ducking?
Clucking?
Plucking?
Sucking?

Back about a decade ago, there was a guy in the FidoNet POLITICS conference who called another user a “pig f****r.” The moderator jumped him about it. The guy actually tried to claim he had meant “pig farmer” and said he didn’t understand why the moderator was getting so upset.

Needless to say, he didn’t get very far with that claim.

Zette – how recent was this? I don’t see it on the first page (and didn’t feel like going through the rest).

I cuss alot in real life (but not around my parents) and so alot of my cussing flows out into my typing. It just seems natural, like any other words. I certainly am not offended by them. But I am aware that others are, that’s why I don’t cuss in public or to people who I haven’t heard cuss yet. I do try to keep it under check when I’m typing, but they slip.

FTR, whenever I post in the pit, I’m usually so pissed I don’t have to ‘pit-ify’ stuff. IMHO, that’s just dorky.
