Well, yeah. I mean, Wildest Bill, for example, doesn’t have a nationally syndicated column with a well-known newsmagazine. (As far as I know. I can only imagine that poor, poor editor. ;)) Just like with Falwell and Robertson, that people listen to those with such columns more than they would some random individual lends legitimacy to a position that doesn’t deserve it.
Also, none of the other people I mentioned had to get someone else to apologize for them. (Although it now seems that Pat is retracting his retraction and is trying to lay the blame for the remarks entirely on Jerry. See TheeGrumpy’s link.) It’s as bad as if there were no apology at all, at least as far as other’s images of her is concerned.
If you read all of Coulter’s article, and I barely just managed to, you’ll see that she advocates other things as well as invasion, assasination, and forcible conversion. She also advocated racial profiling, saying:
“Airports scrupulously apply the same laughably ineffective airport harassment to Suzy Chapstick as to Muslim hijackers. It is preposterous to assume every passenger is a potential crazed homicidal maniac. We know who the homicidal maniacs are. They are the ones cheering and dancing right now.”
