Why does my night shirt have a pocket?

I bought a new night shirt recently, and the fact that it has a breast pocket confuses me. Why would they put a pocket on sleepwear? What do they think I’d need to put in it?

Things that you may need in your dreams.

Gotta keep those condoms handy

You know when you wake up in the middle of the night with a great idea and then you have nothing to write it down with, so you drop off to sleep only to forget it in the morning.

Well, if you sleep with a notepad and pen in your nightshirt pocket, you will always have something handy to write with.

Of course, you may stab yourself to death when rolling over. One of those occupational hazards I suppose.

… So your pet mouse can sleep with you, just over your heart.

Of course, if you sleep on your stomach he’ll just find a warm spot a bit lower under your shorts and burrow in!

Note to self:
back away slowly if Duskter ever offers to show trouser mouse and reachs into their pants…

Kleenex?

People still wear night shirts??

Yes, people still wear night shirts. Right here! More comfortable than pajamas; no binding around the waist or crotch.

I’ve got a great nightshirt - bright red flannel with pictures of teddies all over it. Leechboy seriously suggested that it would be acceptable to wear it out when I went grocery shopping. Needless to say I didn’t. But its more of a wear around the house on a cold winters morning or eve than an actual wear to bed item of clothing.

I believe mine has a pocket on it also.

That’s what you told them at A&E was it? - that ranks right up there with “I was vacuuming while naked and…” and “I accidentally sat on a coke bottle”

I’ve made a couple of nightshirts (always VERY well received) and I always put pockets on them. My dad uses his pocket for his glasses. He often lounges around the house in the winter in this nightshirt, and it’s very handy for him to have a pocket for glasses. This particular nightshirt had a chest patch pocket. I’ve also made a nightshirt with kangaroo pockets, so that the wearer could put her hands in the pockets while watching TV. If I ever make another nightshirt, I’ll go ahead and put both kangaroo AND patch pockets on it.

You can never have too many pockets.

For the cigarettes when you go out on the porch to smoke, Kleenex, and Cheetos.

Many people lounge around the house in their “pajamas” - be it the storebought variety of that name, old shorts and t-shirt, or a nightshirt. I would assume the pocket would be for those times, and not when sleeping.

In addition to the aforementioned cigarettes, I keep Chapstick (or other lip goo) in my pocket. LolaBaby don’t you find that keeping Cheetos in the pocket leaves lots of Day-Glo orange crumbs? I just carry the bag with me.

Why, the pocket is for displaying your matching silk hankerchief when you go out.

I’ll echo Lynn. I always picture someone reading in their night shirt and pulling their reading glasses out of the pocket.
