Why does my stomach constantly rumble?

It is strange…

But for the last 6 months or so, my stomach has been in a permanent state of rumble… When I wake up, before I eat, after I eat, and especially when I lay down to go to sleep at night.

I have been on a diet, so is it possible my stomach is saying “where is the food we have been used to digesting for the last decade?” I can’t remember exactly when I started noticing the sounds, but I don’t remember anything like this in my past.

Or could it be something else? (Part of aging, my stomach is digesting itself, etc?)

Yes, I know you are not my doctor…

But just as an FYI, i recently had a colonoscopy and everything checked out fine.

Medical advice is best suited to IMHO.

I don’t know, but mine sometimes goes on what I call a “gurgle cycle.” I’ll be sitting there or lying in bed, and every X seconds, it gurgles. Like clockwork. It could be every 8 seconds, or every 15 seconds. But once the cycle starts, my stomach, without fail, will gurgle at extremely regular intervals. It equally drives me nuts and fascinates me how my digestive track can keep such regular rhythm.

So I’m also curious to hear what any experts might have to say about the rumbling/gurgling process from the stomach.

I wondered the same thing before I realized I had became lactose intolerant in early adulthood. Try severely cutting back on dairy products while eating full meals (to isolate out that your stomach is just rumbling from a diet, which by the way is not how to do it) to see if the symptoms lessen.

Are you eating anything that is labeled “sugar free”?

Indeed I am.

Mostly diet soda, and I also have a couple cups of coffee in the morning with Spenda.

Other than that though, I don’t seek out sugar-free food items.

rogerbox, I don’t consume much dairy… And if I ever do have milk, it is Lactaid (or whatever the lactose-free brand is called).

I have it too - it is called ‘borborygmus’. I blamed mine on too many sugarfree altoids but it seems to have disappeared after a recent colonoscopy…

Stomach rumbles (actually intestinal rumbles) are GOOD. NO rumbles are bad. They means your guts are working. see the link:stomach rumble

If I can’t hear bowel noises, it’s call-the-doctor time!
