In hopping around the net I ran across this pic on Liz Smith’s page in the NY Daily News. In glancing at the pic the instant impression was “smiling gay guy”, and to my utter lack of surprise, he was gay.
In stepping back a moment I thought about my off the cuff response to the picture. Why would I think with overwhelming assuredness that he’s a gay man? He’s not wearing anything unusual, he doesn’t look like a model, he’s not assuming any provocative pose, but the picture to me says “Gay - Very Gay”.
Why? He’s just smiling. What specifically is it about the pic that signals gayness?
In researching the actor Johnny Galecki further it appears he is not gay., so my question is answered, apparently I simply cannot tell gay from straight worth a damn.
FWIW, Johnny Galecki played David Healy- Darlene Conner’s boyfriend on Roseanne. It was a running joke that he was more effeminate than the tomboy Darlene.
It may be the pose the have him in - the shoulders tilted one way with the slight head tilt the other.
He doesn’t come across to me as particularly gay, but I could see how it might seem that way from that particular photo.
 I didn’t even recognize him. He used to be so cute…in an interesting quirky sort of way. Now he’s “cute”. In a bland boring telegenic sort of way. Ick.
Didn’t the girl who played Darlene actually come out as a lesbian a few years ago? I seem to remeber something about her and her partner adopting a baby.
IMDB says of her “Sara and her partner, Allison Adler, welcomed their first child, a boy, at the end of October 2004, after Adler gave birth in Los Angeles via a sperm donor.”
Also, she’s Melissa Gilbert’s sister, I didn’t know that.
