Why doesn't gmail ever remember me?

…despite the fact that I have “Remember me” checked? I don’t have this problem with any other websites, it’s just gmail that makes me type in my user name and pass every time. Is this a common problem or is it just me?

I think I’d probably have the same problem if I didn’t have 3 gmail accounts that I check regularly. You might want to consider using google talk as your instant messenger. It checks your mail for you and you are always logged in.

I DO have this same problem with ebay though. I always click “remember me from this computer” or whatever, but I always have to sign in. The forms are already filled in because firefox saves the info… so it’s not that annoying. In fact, the main page will say “hello newcomb_being” and “if this is not you please click here.” But when I click on “My Ebay,” it suddenly forgets.

Go figure.

That’s another thing, I use Firefox, and even at sites where there’s no “remember me” option, Firefox still remembers them. But the power of gmail’s forgetfulness trumps Firefox’s memory abilities.

Do you have cookies enabled?

I’ve had (and solved) this problem with GMail and Firefox. The key is to find all of your GMail cookies and saved passwords, delete them all, and then close Firefox. Load it up again, tell Firefox to remember passwords, turn on cookies, and log in to GMail. You should be fine from here on out.

The problem is often caused by someone else checking their GMail using your browser, or you checking your other account.
