Why doesn't the "Click here if you don't want us to ask this question again" work?

You probably know what I mean, when I surf on the internet and I enter a password (like for SDMB) IE always asks me

“do you want to remember this password so you don’t have to type it again” YES or NO (I always click NO)

and then, there’s a little checkbox that says:

“click here if you don’t want to be asked again” or “Don’t offer to remember anymore passwords” (I always click there)

but even though it’s checked, it always asks me again anyway; what’s going on?

What’s the purpose of the check box if it doesn’t do what it says it does?
Is it there only to decieve us in believing we have power over IE?

For me it does work. I think the “Don’t offer to remember anymore passwords” box applies to each individual site you visit.

The AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) has a thing like that. My kid uses it, goes away, and leaves it running. I right-click in the taskbar to close it. The d.b. pops up? “Are you sure you really, really want to close our wonderful program? Are you nuts?” I tell it “Yes, you idiot.” There is a checkbox “Don’t ask me this again.” I always make sure it’s checked. Nonetheless, the d.b. keeps reappearing like clockwork every few weeks. It has the Annoying feature factory-set at a certain level.

If you go to the Tools menu, Internet Options, the Content tab and click on the AutoComplete box, you can uncheck the last 3 checkboxes (or all 4 if you don’t want autocomplete to work on the Location bar either). That should do the trick.

Does it have anything to do with cookies? I think if you have your browser set to reject cookies, this type of option won’t work.

Huh! h.sapiens from Oak Park. U. sapiens born in Oak Park. Small world!

Anyway, yes. It has everything to do with cookies. That’s where that information is stored. So, if you have the browser set to not allow cookies, or you routinely delete them, this functionality won’t work for you. You are fairly sapient, for an “h”.
