I have a question about Firefox 3.0 for the code/computer mavens here.
A few days ago I registered at a new site and FF offered to save my name and password for me. Since I didn’t know if the site would accept my first choices, I just closed the box by clicking the “X”. At least I’m pretty sure I didn’t click the “never save p/w for this site” button, but now FF refuses to ask again, or supply them at that site.
I know some sites disable this feature, but it asked that first time. I have a checkmark in the “Remember p/ws for sites” and the site is not on the Exceptions list, cookies are saved for the site, but in the Saved Passords list the site is missing and there is no way to manually insert the site, name, and p/w. At least I haven’t seen one.
I’ve searched sites that say they have the answer, but all they say is to check the things I’ve already mentioned above. How do I force FF to start asking if I want it to save the name p/w again for the site and supply it when I’m not logged in?
Options|Security, Exceptions button, then remove the site you want passwords enabled for.
I wrote that the site is NOT on the Exceptions list.
Try logging out of, and then back into that specific site? Maybe it’ll pop up the remember box again…FYI, even if you click yes and your first PW choice comes back unacceptable, FF should ask you each time until you click yes or no to remember…I’ve had the same thing happen, had to try a couple different PWs, and it asks me everytime until the site accepts one, then FF just remembers that one…good luck!
I’ve tried that several times with no luck.
Have you tried clearing your cookies?
clear caches too.
Tried those, no success.
I know you’ve said it’s not on the exception list, but would you be willing to open the exception list and hit “remove all” just to make sure it’s not on the list but somehow not visible?
Forgive me if this is too obvious, and you know it already, but I know from experience how easy it can be to miss obvious things. There are two buttons marked Exceptions on the Security tab. The relevant one is the lower one.
Install this plugin and search for the website name in your forms history.
I already tried “Remove all” sites from the Exceptions list; there was only one, and that didn’t work.
The other Exceptions button concerns add-ons. Just in case, I added the site to the list as able to install add-ons.
That plugin isn’t compatible with FF 3.0
Still not working.
It should be compatible with 3.09. Have you updated 3 to the latest available 3.0.x?
Try this plugin and see if it installs. If not, you’ll have to do some massaging of the “install.rdf” file inside the package to allow it to install on 3.0.0.
No, it says I have FF 3.0 exactly. I tried to install that first plugin but it rejected it. I’ll try your second plugin. If that doesn’t work I’ll just live with it. It’s not really a big deal. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. Maybe I’ll update to 3.6.3.
I would definitely recommend updating FF. I mean, they came out with a newer version for a reason…I can’t guarantee it’s better than the version you’re operating…but at least you’ll be on the same page as most FF users, and more likely to find help on fora, etc.
