Why go on a talk show if you're not going to talk?

Janet Jackson on Letterman.

You know what he’s going to ask. If you’re in the public eye and all that and what not. Sure, some subjects may be uncomfortable for you, but what did you really think he was going to ask, huh?

Not really upset, but her reactions to his questions could’ve been better. Which is why it’s in the Pit, instead of Cafe. Because I’m complaining, you see. More or less.

Like Dave himself said at the end of the interview: “Thank you for coming here and listening to me talk.”

That was a waste of several minutes on national TV. I’d like to know why she went on the show, too. So she could ask Dave to let her get on with her life because she’s done so much that is more newsworthy recently?

Dammit, Janet, it wasn’t an accident. You don’t have to fess up, but don’t do the rounds on TV and lie about it.

I didn’t see the show, I’m not a Letterman fan, but there were a few news articles about it.

I find it hard to believe that she didn’t expect to be asked about the incident. leenmi, I agree with you (as I think does most of America) that the incident WAS a stunt, despite the denials. No more trouble comes at this point, she should just go ahead and tell the truth.

I’m in Houston. The paper ran a story a few weeks later with a report from the shop where the clothing was purchased. They say that it definitely was altered, and not by them. It was originally a plain piece, not meant to be detached. She took the outfit elsewhere and had the modifications made.

Does she expect us to believe that not one time did she try it out? With someone from her entourage? Just to see?

After all that, what else is there to talk about? She’s not big news musically anymore. I don’t think her new album is going to bring her back up.

Did they ask her about Michael’s case?

Leenmi, would an interview with Janet Jackson have not been a waste of national TV airtime under any circumstances?

oh shit, the 5th seal has just been opened…I agree with matt_mcl on something.

shudder

Not if she exposed the other breast.

Contrast Janet Jackson’s pathetic denials and unwillingness to talk with Ben Affleck’s fearless manner of confronting the whole J.Lo hurricane head-on, answering pretty much any question asked of him and lampooning himself gleefully. She needs to take some lessons from Mr. Affleck!

He did ask her how she feels about it, not about any of the legal particulars. Her answer was that she wasn’t allowed to talk about it. He repeated that he was asking how she feels about it and she said something about her mother.

I saw part of it, and that’s it: I’ve lost all respect for Janet.

At first I thought she’d be cool and be quiet about it until all the brouhaha washed over, then she’d come out and say “Yeah, I planned it. It seemed like a fun thing to do. Sorry I offended anyone but Big f-ing deal. So you saw a boob. Get a life people. I won’t do it again. I’m sorry kids saw it–I definitely picked the wrong venue. It’s over. If you want SoccerMom/Whitebread America to take it and use it to censor everything from now on, then it’s your loss.”

But no. Janet is a coward.

Janet’s an asshole.

When I read the thread title I thought, “Hey, someone else saw Meg Ryan on Michael Parkinson.”

Without going into the full horror, Meg Ryan was recently interviewed (well, it was shown in Australia recently) on Michael Parkinson’s BBC chat show and clearly hated being there. At least Letterman only has to fill in a few minutes and can cut to a commercial break - Parky is stuck with 15 to 20 minutes with no break. He ended up asking what she would do in his position and she suggested “Wrap it up?” Very painful to watch and it lowered my opinion of her considerably.

What was up with Janet biting her thumb and acting like a total child towards the end of the interview? That pisses me off to no end.

She must have said a total of 25 words in the entire segment… and I ended up feeling sorry for Dave for having his and millions of other people’s time wasted.

Isn’t that poor-shy-little-girl thing her shtick? I’ve seen her interviewed long before The Boob, and she was much the same way. I guess it’s supposed to be cute or make you feel sympathetic, but I’ve always just found her boring as hell when interviewed. She comes off as having all the personality of a particularly shy piece of milktoast.

If her dress was cut any lower, you would have been accomodated.
