Why has the board been down?

It wasn’t really Geeky at all.

Translation: A piece of equipment on a very important computer broke, and was subsequently replaced with a temporary fix. The more permanent fix is coming on December 29 at 11 PM MST.

When Jerry doesn’t offer a detailed enough explanation, people complain about the administration not being specific. When a detailed explanation is provided, people complain that the administration is talking over people’s heads. I guess it’s a lose-lose situation.

Thanks for the explanation…

…but really, who cares why it was down? The important thing is it’s back up! : D
Ahh, I’m addicted to dope.

I don’t think photopat was complaining. Some of us find geeky, well, enticing. Hence the breathless “sigh”.

Funny, I don’t remember posting under another username…
I’m glad it’s back up too. Normal crashes don’t bother me, but I was afraid he Dope was gone for good!

And geeks are sex-ay!

Ah. A cluster fuck.

Yeah, a “database error” or some such message is normal. That “pending restoration of service” message was scary.

I don’t usually join in these discussions, but it has come to the point where a very few dedicated people are working very hard on behalf of a multitude of malcontents. It’s almost Christmas, a time when many of us are winding down for time-off. Jerry, meanwhile, is working on these problems, which he doubtless is juggling with a number of other projects. He is communicating to us what he’s doing and what remains to be done and when.

It is my opinion, worthless as it is, that anyone finding anything to complain about with respect to Jerry and his work is a… well, is something that I am willing to discuss in the Pit.

Jerry, thank you. And fuck anyone who thinks you don’t deserve appreciation.

Hey Jerry, your work is highly derivative, and lacks sincerity and texture.

I am curious about the MST reference. Does that mean the servers are not in Chicago? If not, then the main hub of technology in Mountain Time would be…right here in Denver! I wonder where they are…

Sorry, they’re in my basement. I got kinda drunk last night and tripped over them.

Your stumbling around after drinking also made my power at home go out last week, just FYI. Please try to be careful.

So that’s what that button does! Sorry guys!

Maybe they’ve repurposed the Satellite of Love?

While your support is certainly appreciated, I think “fuck anyone” is somewhat outside the civility we’d like to see in ATMB. You’re welcome, of course, to express that same opinion in the Pit.

That actually would explain some of the outages… maybe the staff uses server parts to make robots?

Robin

Tom Server?

Not having the Dope all day made me realize - yet again - how much I love it. Many thanks to the Dope IT gurus for giving me my daily fix again!!!

Ah, the SDMB…cocktease or Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates that you are.

Either you know you aren’t going to get it, or you don’t know what you’re going to get.

Glad it’s back up, though.

Sorry. I just thought, well, never mind. I accept your warning with humility and regret.

Wow. I honestly can’t imagine someone being so in to a message board that they go in to an explaination about a tiny outage to a SPOUSE that is to such a degree that the spouse laughs at the thought of exaggeration.

I honestly can’t get over the fact that you were explaining slight message board down-time to someone to the degree that they laughed at you “unreasonably”.

I really wish this was the pit…

Let me repeat that the idea behind ATMB–one of them–is to have a civil conversation about the board and its policies. Your post is little more than an attempt to demean another poster, and it belongs in the Pit. Simply saying “I wish this as the Pit” doesn’t give your post a pass, so don’t expect it to.
