Why I hate grocery stores

Short list today: 4 lb. bag of Pedigree Healthy Start for Puppies, sugar, coffee creamer, Splenda (pourable), cigarettes. Went to the big Winn-Dixie nearby. No 4 lb. bags of puppy chow, got the 8 lb. bag because the Harris-Teeter up the street doesn’t sell it.

Looked for Splenda, W-D had only the packets ($7.00 for 100), no pourable. Store brand sugar was $2.85. Got the coffee creamer. Cigarettes only at customer service, which is also where you get money orders. Six people in line, so thought, forget it, you have to go to H-T anyway.

In H-T, found sugar for $1 less than W-D, but no pourable Splenda. Bought the damn 50 packet size. Ten people in line at customer service, where cigarettes are available. Used the UScan to check out with my 2 items. It jammed. Said I still owed it 27 cents, though I had put a $5 bill, a quarter and 2 pennies in. Attendent did stuff with her computer, said I owed 27 cents. Came over, did something to the UScan, got a quarter & 2 pennies out. Told me I owed 27 cents. I told her, You’re holding my 27 cents!

Went to the convenience store for cigarettes.

Kroger has pulled out of my area. We have the stores mentioned, plus Food Lion (yuck), Lowe’s and Bi-Lo. I routinely go to 2-3 stores for a list of very ordinary items.

And don’t tell me to quit smoking! I’m ready to quit eating.

Quit eating what? Puppy Chow?

That’s how it is here…

I go to Stop N Shop for good prices on certain items I can’t find for the kids’ lunches.

I go to Acme for most everything else, meat, veggies, etc. But they don’t have a big selection…

so then I have to go to A&P to find specialty cheeses and stuff …

BUT

if I want some really nice fruits/veggies and/or specialty items I have to drive 25 mins away to buy stuff at Delicious Orchards.
