I don’t agree with everything the moderators do but I’ve spent enough time swimming in the unmoderated portions of the internet to apreciate the job they do. Have you seen what usenet has devolved into? Have you read any of the yahoo groups? There are a few nuggets of goodness left that don’t cost money but finding them is more effort than it’s worth.
How do we find out if it’s time to renew? Did you get a notice or something?

The other day I thought Lost was a rerun and wasn’t going to watch it.
Only when I saw the post in Cafe Society did I realize it was new.
That was worth the price of admission for a year, alone.
Anyone who wants to blame that TubaDiva crap for why they’re not renewing is just looking for a good excuse for something they’ve already decided, or is WAY too emotionally invested in the minutiae of this place.
It’s my birthday present to me. I’d visited before. Had a question for Cecil a couple of years ago, and when I had a few hours to kill I’d read and follow links - deeper and deeper into the abyss. And from the chaos came knowledge and laughter and dare I think a little less ignorance (my own).
It was at the height of the strife I joined. Why? Maybe you don’t care why. There was such passion and intelligence and diversity of thought. Morality and compassion all glued together with legal citation and indignity . . . I didn’t want to lose what I’ve only had a crush on so far . . . don’t be my unrequited love, don’t be just someone I locked eyes with, breifly, on a crowded train - and wondered about two years later

People who are renewing over that one Incident Of Unpleasantness are a bunch of whiners who don’t belong here (IMHO). ¦¬)
I renewed about a month ago and, finding it was still half price, renewed ShadiRoxan, too. Considering how much time I spend here, it’s worth the price.
Already did it. Weeks ago. And it is well worth it too. 
If I renew before my due date, do I lose the three weeks or so, and have a new renewal date next year?

Ed Zotti’s post in ATMB covers this. According to Ed, your renewal will extend your membership by one year from the renewal lapse date. IOW, no, you won’t lose three weeks.
If for no other reason, renew for the sheer drama of it all.
