If she is a troll (and she certainly seems like one to me–I’m convinced she is), she shouldn’t be allowed to post here.
If she isn’t a troll, then she is, by far, too stupid for words, crass, crude, spreading false info, being a vicious, cold, heartless bitch, derailing threads and making them all about her, continuing to post to topics she partakes in almost seemingly just to have the last word and “win” the thread, is consistantly inconsistant, ignores cites that show her the facts, and is obviously not well enough to play with others…in which case…she probably shouldn’t be allowed to post here.
Just my opinion.
So I wonder…does anyone know why she’s still been allowed to post? People have been banned for here for less.
I honestly don’t think she’s a troll. I think she really, sincerely thinks that poor people, illegal immigrants, and babies are going to bankrupt her and her rich husband. I’m not even kidding. I think she’s like a cracked-out Archie Bunker or something. Behind all of it is a pathological fear of returning to poverty. She’s also not working, so she’s bored off her ass with only her dogs to talk to all day, hence her immense amount of time and energy spent here.
This thread is just going to turn into another forum for her to make it all about her. I doubt she’d be banned as a troll, though I wish she could be chastised in some way for telling torie she ought to have aborted her children. That was pretty fucking rude.
I know this is a pretty cliquish place, but why is everybody so enthusiastic to press the “trolling” (pseudo-)charge and drop the banhammer whenever they suffer the outrage of encountering an opinion different from their own?–No matter how asinine that opinion might be.
Isn’t the usual prescription for dealing with so-called trolls to refrain from feeding them? Not to dedicate a pit thread to them?
For my part, I’d like to see a reprimand for every “Why can’t we ban so-and-so?” complaint that gets bandied about on here.
Hmm, if one is so afraid of returning to poverty, getting off one’s ass and actually working would be indicated, you’d think. Rich husbands don’t necessary hang around forever.
Think of curlcoat as a wake up call-- there are really people who think like her out there, and they are affecting the public discourse. Calling her a troll is a way of trying to pretend that no one could actually think the way she does, a view that you can hold at your own peril. She’s for real, folks, scary as that is. Yes, it’s futile to try to debate with her, but she’s for real. Banning her would be the rhetorical equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and saying, “Lalalala, I can’t hear you!” to a wacked out, but genuine, viewpoint. And I don’t think she’s remotely alone in holding it.
ETA: Telperien, is it so impossible to think that she’s really disabled?
I also think that people who don’t understand what a troll is, yet persist in accusing others of being one, should be banned for being tragically worthless, intellectually dishonest, and just plain annoying.
Note to the wannabe threadcop morons: disagreeing with you, thinking you are a fucking idiotic douchebag who should have been aborted, and being a dick aren’t part of the definition of troll.
Being an opinionated, judgemental, contrarian ass isn’t trolling; nor, as far as I know, is it grounds for banning, and I don’t I think it ought to be.
If nothing else, effectively and honestly debating with someone we (the generic “we”, not Dopers specifically) consider sophomoric — or outright moronic — forces us to re-examine and flesh out the basis and reasoning for our most core beliefs, even those that we may consider obvious or commonsense. After all, if you can’t refute a stupid argument without resorting to outright dismissal, then how stupid is it really?
Right or wrong, it can’t hurt to be called out once in a bit. Y’all don’t want the accusations of “hive mind” that spring up every so often to have a ring of truth to them, do you?
Not to take anything away from the points you made earlier in the post, which are fine as far as they go, but some people might like to see a reprimand for every “Why can’t we reprimand such-and-such behavior?” complaint that gets bandied about on here.
I would, but I can’t say so, because, well, you know…
I figured someone would bring up this supposed hypocrisy. I think there is a great difference between warning someone for engaging in a rude and obnoxious practice (asking that a fellow poster be banned) versus expelling someone from the board. People don’t like to be warned, but they hate getting banned. And consequently, there is a difference between publicly calling for some posters to be warned versus publicly calling for some posters to be banned.
I have to disagree with you. As I said in a thread once before, there’s being obtuse and then there’s being trollishly obtuse.
Curlcoat has, on many occasions (in fact, in almost every thread I linked to), done something akin to (and please note, this is an example; putting it another way as an analogy to what she’s done) this:
Poster A: Two plus two is four
Curlcoat: No, it’s not!
Poster A: Yes, it is…see, we have two lines || and two other lines ||. Put them together |||| and how many do you count? There are four there
Curlcoat: No, you’re wrong!
Sorry, but when someone is telling someone else in the face of cited facts, and in plain and simple terms, that they are still wrong and insisting on it, you cannot convince me that person isn’t playing a part.
Real obtuse people, at the very least, sometimes say “Hmm, well, I might be wrong” when presented with stone-cold, without any doubt, undisputable evidence that they are. They don’t continue screeching that the person is wrong. Not unless they just want to either get reactions, get attention, possibly both, or are too sick in the head to comprehend what they’re doing. And even if it is the last, posters are usually taken care of here for that reason too (KGS).
I think you’re giving humanity too much credit. There really are people that obtuse. You must not know any of them IRL if you think curlcoat must be putting us on. Lucky you. I think she’s for real. It’s infuriating, but then, just put her on ignore and your problem is solved, no?
Did anyone report the post? How on earth did this not violate “common courtesy”, outlined in the rules. I’d think some form of moderator intervention, even if simply an unofficial reprimand, would have been justified.
“Hypocrisy?” Nah, nah. Matter of fact I don’t really even want such a sanction to exist. I happen to agree with you that reading constant (or even “frequent”) cries of “BAN HER!”, “BURN HIM!” “SEE IF HE WEIGHS AS MUCH AS A DUCK, THEN BURN HIM!” is unpleasant, tiresome, and a poor substitute for reading a well-crafted flame.
I’m just saying that “REPRIMAND HIM!”, “GIVE HER A NOOGIE!” “SEE IF SHE WEIGHS AS MUCH A DUCK THEN GIVE HER A NOOGIE!” is also tiresome. It’s probably related to my long-held belief that publicly pointing out someone’s rudeness is itself rude. And I was trying to use humor in my expression of the sentiment.
I don’t think she actually insisted on abortion. I think she mentioned that putting the children up for adoption is an acceptable response to the birth of a child that parents hadn’t arranged in advance to be financially prepared to raise with absolutely no resources drawn from any pool that curlcoat personally kicks into. :dubious:
I’ll say that a little of her goes a very long way, but as long as one takes care to not overdose, she really is a fascinating specimen.
She didn’t come out and say, “You should have aborted your children.” She, in typical fashion, strongly implied it. From this thread:
Post #47:
Post #49:
It was at this point that torie drew the conclusion that curlcoat was suggesting she should have had an abortion. Note that curlcoat did not use that word, but clear that’s what she meant-- that or adoption. Either way, the upshot is that she thought torie was selfish and wrong to have and keep her children. When torie called her on her subtext, she said:
Post #70:
So, which of these would you report? All of them? Are any of them point-blank statements of “You should have had an abortion!” No. But they were enough to upset torie quite a bit. Is it trolling? Or is curlcoat just a titantic, presumptuous, rude, judgmental asshole who hates all children and isn’t afraid to tell their parents so? I leave that for you to decide. You already know my opinion.
