Why is Handy so damn cynical and rude to new people?

I would ask you straight Handy… but Im afraid I’d get “this questions been asked a dozen times before, do a search before you post idiot” but of course search almost never (including now) works.

alright… now Im being a major DICK! Im sorry to single anyone out… its just that I have noticed that some members of the board (several in fact) get really ticked off at new posters when they dont follow (or even know to follow) the board rules or “the straight dope clicks” I myself am far from perfect (as seen by the way this thread started out). New people are GOING to post questions that we have seen. simple fact. Most of the regulars on here are very cool about that and are nice and guiding to the newbies. But some are just damn rude and act like new people are an interferance. Sometimes it pisses me off! (BTW I am not talking about MM type trolls here, just newbies with honest intentions and questions.)
ALRIGHT RANT OVER! You may all start your bashing of me now. (probably deserve it)

Goddamn I wish I wouldnt have posted this in this way. Now I feel like Ive done worse then anyone on this board!

Ah what the hell… fuck’em all.

 Fuck you, you fuckin fuck!

Jeesus, whats next? You gonna go pound the crap outta yourself?

  1. it isnt that bad a thread
    b) if you are sorry you started the thread…email Lynn and ask her to delete it.

You are gonna be OK… Stay away from any sharp objects…

Perhaps a link would be useful.

As for the existence of a clique, I’d be careful with that allegation.

Our intrepid detective Diane, P.I. [cue theme music] tried to allege The Clique’s existence but hesitated to identify any members of this alleged “cliche clique” on the MB.

I’d love to hear your theory, though.

In general though, we are very nice to newbies, IMO. New posters come in all the time and become part of the community often without any fanfare. The thing is, only newbies that gain notariety are the ones who don’t follow basic netiquette, the ones who are a thorn in our collective sides.

As for handy, my biggest beef with him is his tendency to make blatantly incorrect statements and pass them off as genuine fact.

Gypsy: Tom, I don’t get you.
Tom Servo: Nobody does. I’m the wind, baby.

We were all babies and newbies once. Of course that was eons (10 months)ago.

My mom says I was born an old man.

Tom~

My only problem with this thread is that I singled one person out that I chose to vent on when one person isnt what I would ever consider a problem. Oh yeah, that and I really fuckin hate deaf people… with there hand talk and their special phones… they think there better then us!! …and dont get me started on the blind and their dogs…

You will learn to laugh at it B_ . It happens to everyone. There is no way you can remember all the threads that have been posted. Believe me you will be quickly informed if you post a thread that’s been on the board before, and you will usually receive a pretty flaming post about it. Ignore it. Move on. Some people are nice enough to post to the thread with their opinion anyway. The others, well, the only thing I could never understand is why someone would post to a thread they didn’t like to begin with. If you don’t like a thread just bypass it, don’t just post to leave a nasty note that the thread’s been done before.

I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.

ultress, I’ve never seen a nasty post indicating that a topic has been discussed before. And it is important to notify a post that a topic has been discussed before.

Too many people post to GQ, for example, without realizing there is an archive of SD questions. And most of them haven’t lurked long enough to notice that the same topic was discussed at length last month. These posts let them know that many of their questions can be answered in convenient places.

If a newbie is insulted by that or considers it a personal attack then they are really thin-skinned. I generally laugh at posters who think that “nastiness” is a severe problem on this board.

Gypsy: Tom, I don’t get you.
Tom Servo: Nobody does. I’m the wind, baby.

Hell, I’ve always considered that part of his unique charm.

From my observations, Handy is cynical and rude to everybody. He’s very equal opportunity that way. His offerings tend to be short, bitter, sometimes more apropos than others, but rarely single out individuals in terms of personal versus encompassing scorn.

Handy is sort of the Ambrose Bierce of the SDMB, only not as funny or pointed.

Alpha evidently you haven’t read some of the posts that have been made. Yes, I’ve read some of the earlier threads, but you can’t go back and read months and months of topics in every forum, sometimes someone slips up and reposts a topic. One post stating that the topic has been posted before would be enough. I could post you a quote very easily as an example, but would rather just let it go instead of starting a flaming party. It’s not a big deal, but it does happen.

Diane? Is that you?

Look, ultress, if you have evidence of someone being a jerk to a newbie, let’s see it. If not, stop making vague whiny accusations you won’t (or can’t) back up.

I gotta go with TV here. Handy is a rude little prick to everyone, not just newbies.

This thread ain’t about you and it ain’t about me Alpha. By the way, I don’t whine. I just have better things to do than waste my time retracking threads to make a point that is not that important.

I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.

Ultress - Yeah, but God forbid you deprive Alpha of his sick need to witness the public flogging of others. Just ignore the greasy haired doofus.

Alphie - You don’t like the way people post? Boo-fuckin-hoo. I don’t like your wrinkled baggy pants and your cheap tennis shoes.

You turn me on. But maybe it’s because I just spent 20 years in the jungle, getting it on with anything I could attract with a piece of fruit.

You are right Diane. Geesh what was I thinking to even post to him.

I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.

Sick need? Hmm, here I thought Alpha was just hoping people who made claims about these shadow posters that make up cliques and rip up newbies for no reason would actually provide proof that these posters existed somewhere aside from his imagination. I guess thats a sick need. Oh well. We are all sickies in our own way, I suppose.
