I feel that this is probably answered somewhere obvious, and that it must have been answered many times before, but strangely enough I can’t find the answer. I also know that there is an argument this should be in ATMB but it isn’t about the board.
I think at one point some people pronounced URL (i.e. ‘web address’) as ‘Earl’. I can’t say I’ve ever heard it used in person though.
It’s a double pun, one on Weird Al (Yankovic) and one on URL, which some pronounce as a word: Url = Earl
