Why is it so damn hot in here?

Walked into the old office this morning at 7:00 am and once the elevator doors opened I felt a huge rush of blistering hot air. I thought “The building must be on fire and I have taken an elevator instead of the stairs.”

Upon seeing no flames, I exited the elevator and looked down both hallways. No flames. No firefighters. Assumed it was safe to go to my office.

Passed by the receptionist who informed me that the building maintenance crew had inadvertently LEFT THE AIR OFF ALL WEEKEND and the heat had kicked on mysteriously at some point.

The temparture was 93 degrees. I asked if anyone had been called and was assured they were working to fix the problem right away.

It was so hot it was hard to breathe. I went to the ice machine to get some ice and wouldn’t you know it? Somebody unplugged the machine and now there is nothing in there but a puddle of water. No ice.

Jump to 8:00 am. My boss comes in and says, “Why is it so fucking hot in here?” I explained the situation and told him they were supposedly working on it. The temp at this point has cooled down to a sultry 90 degrees.

The CEO of the company comes in around 9:00 and the temp is now a brisk 89 degrees.

He calls the building folks who tell us that they thought the problem was taken care of but the building probably won’t cool down until 1:00 pm or so.

It is now 11:30 and the temp is a frigid 88 degrees. The building guys did come by about an hour ago and brought us popsicles so at least they are trying I suppose.

I hate this place.

Inform your boss that there is a serious danger of damage to the computers if you operate them at temperatures in excess of 80 degrees. They must be shut down in order to protect the company’s investment.

While you’re waiting for the building to cool off, take a long lunch. Bill the maintenance department.

It’s now 1:10 and the temp is still 88 degrees.

However, when I left for lunch I had to walk through the first floor and it is freezing down there! The building owner and maintenance guys have their office down there.

Coinsidence? I think not.

Hope it cooled off for you. If not can you open a window? I “HEAR” that sometimes chairs mysteriously fly thru windows of extermely hot buildings. Seemingly without provocation… or assistance…

Hah - come over to my building - you’ll be cold once you come within 10 feet. Darn over air-conditioning!

Susan

Of course it’s hotter upstairs. You’re closer to the Sun!

You work in an air conditioned building??? Some people have all the luck.

I left the office at noon a couple of days ago to go to lunch. It was 45C (about 113F). Maintenance had been working on the airconditioner in my bedroom that morning and had left it off when they finished. Idiots. Now considering my bedroom is pretty much made out of plastic with a metal roof can you imagine how hot it was in there? :frowning:
