And the cookie thing just appeared on my Android phone w Chrome.

Been browsing the Dope for about 30 minutes with nothing unusual then suddenly on the next page there it was.

And yes, it’s hugely intrusive on a mobile and does not go away.

I just started noticing it a few minutes ago. With how obtrusive it is (especially when replying, when it covers half the Reply button), I think it must have just appeared.

And, clicking it temporarily hides the cookie while a sidebar control panel comes up, but closing that control panel brings the moldy chip cookie back.

This is on Chrome, OSX.

I wasn’t seeing it until I read your post; I refreshed my browser, and the cookie appeared. (Windows 11 laptop, Firefox browser.)

Yeah, it’s all over mine, too. Win 11 laptop, Firefox browser. I updated my preferences and now that I’ve done that, the cookie should get lost, so far as I’m concerned.

Just got it on my iPhone after getting an „Accept Cookies“ pop up.

I haven’t seen that cookie ever since the problem was apparently fixed later in the day on July 17. I don’t see it on my desktop system nor on Firefox for Android on my tablet. However, I do see it on the tablet if I switch to a different Android browser. I assumed this was because I have my SDMB bookmark on the tablet Firefox cofigured to force desktop mode, and that the cookie’s reappearance was associated with the mobile view. But this doesn’t explain why some folks are seeing it on their laptops.

I have never seen the cookie on my laptop, win10, Brave browser.
It does appear on my phone’s SDMB app. but I hardly ever use that.
Asking google suggests the adblocker solution, but doesn’t that only
work if you’re viewing SDMB through a browser ?

Yes, the Adblock “Block Element” filter requires a browser with the Adblock Plus extension installed. Removing the filter later on is slightly more involved than enabling it. The exact process depends on the version of Adblock, but it generally involves going into “Advanced” settings where you can view and disable or delete filters.

I’m not seeing it on my computer on the Brave browser but am in Discourse on my iPhone.

It just showed up this morning for me. Safari browser on iphone. I tried refreshing the page and then closing and reopening the tab. Still there.

I do not care to install any browser extensions to make it go away, but I very much want it to go away.

I’m convinced that the reappearance of the Cookie Monster is largely associated with the mobile view, but may also be triggered by some browser configurations since some Dopers are seeing it on their laptops. But, again, I haven’t seen it on either my desktop or tablet since July 17, and I have no special filters on either one.
