Now, on laptop – Dell Inspiron 14, 15.6" screen** (?) and running Windows 11, running Google Chrome and with the SDMB at 125% magnification and with a Reply Box open – the cookie covers only the left third of the blue Reply button at lower left. Still a poorly placed icon, to be sure, but I can easily click the other 2/3 of the Reply button.
What are your specs? Maybe we can get a better view so at least the cookie’s effects are mitigated.
** Screen resolution I’m running is 1920 x 1200 pixels. That’s the more relevant metric anyway.
It worked it blasted the cookie to smithereens. Seems to be gone for good.
Never used that feature before. I’m on iPhone 17, it’s in the tv looking icon in the address bar on the bottom.

Yes, if you hide something by accident, just don’t click on that checkmark at upper right. Back out, re-enter the page and try again.
Even if you do click the check and remove something “permanently”, it can be undone. I don’t have the instructions to do so at the tip of my fingers, though.
EDIT: Note to anyone catching these last few posts and not reading the context above: last several posts are specific to the Safari browser on iPhones and iPads. I would think other phones/tablets have a similar feature named something else. Google will help a lot to learn more for your specific device/OS/browser.
I don’t think that’s the right approach. I think we need to work either with Discourse or with this site’s admins to either switch to a GDPR-compliant banner, or control the placement of the cookie icon in the available themes so it doesn’t sit on top of anything critical. There’s plenty of room in the center of the page bottom, even on my phone, for instance, where the cookie could sit and not obscure the “actionable” items (reply button, trash can, upload photo, preview post.) There’s also room on the top center. And if it were on the side, it would cover some text but you could, at least, scroll around it.
I recommend starting with our site’s admins. This monstrosity is from Osano, which Discourse supports but doesn’t implement. The overlay is added to the theme, but the layout and cookie image is all controlled within Osano, so modifying the theme won’t help (other than moving the Reply button, which is not a good solution).
Someone turned this on specifically for us. Whoever did that has the ability to change the implementation from their Osano dashboard.
That cookie image is an option in Osano, and controllable by region. Site admins can configure where it shows, or turn it off completely.
Presumably it’s an option for sites that want to have cookie settings be extra accessible and have a site layout where that cookie won’t interfere. Osano probably added it as an option because customers were requesting it. I’d put the blame on our site admins who turned it on and configured it poorly.
I didn’t word my last post well. Tools that help manage distracting elements are components of web browsers or browser extensions, as opposed to being device settings.
Kindle tablets (and Fire tablets) come with Amazon’s Silk browser, to my knowledge. If you haven’t loaded a third-party browser, your Kindle is likely using stock Silk — and it has no feature equivalent to Safari’s “Hide Distracting Items”.
I thought the cookie would go away if I interacted with it and saved my preferences, but it’s still there. It partially blocks the Reply button on mobile.

Exactly. There is no way to easily load another browser to the kindle devices. I’ve tried in the past and failed. There is no easy access to the Google play store.
